India vs England : Dont give up on the bowlers..Not now

And now the biggest game of the group B, the marquee game and much hyped game of the tournament which was in the news all way around since Jan end. The build up to this game was awesome. It came to the limelight when the game got shifted to Bangalore after Eden Gardens was not ready. Then a couple of days before the spectators got a police baton hit in the lineup to the tickets. And then it was the ICC displeasure over the tickets fiasco and the typical English media rambling on how failing is the world cup organization.

But what to follow was nobody's guess. India were expected to stream roll the opposition on basis of form and history in the country and abroad.

Sehwag living dangerously to a slow start by Tendulkar to missed 3 chances in the first over -- it all happened in the first few overs of the game. What followed was a superb batting display by India until 46th over when the scoreline read 3 / 305.

India looked set to go till 350 or even more. Tendulkar made record 5th World cup 100, Gambhir showed form, more importantly Yuvraj played a free flowing innings and the myth about Swann and Anderson was busted.

All till Tim Bresnan came back in the attack. What seemed like routine dismissals trying to hit the ball into the stands turned alarming when the rest of batting collapsed to 338 from 3/305. To add injury to the salt, the last run Zaheer and Munfa ran was short and in the end that was the difference between the tie and an Indian victory. Full credit to Tim Bresnan to take 5-for on a flat docile wicket.

Indians were confident of a victory when they came out to bowl because no other team had chased 338 in a world cup and in India. What transpired was shocking and something that exposed Indian bowling. Fielding of course. The bowling was bad no doubt, but English batsmen were lucky too. The balls when they were beaten, raced to 4s. When Strauss failed to pickup a Chwala googly, it ran to boundary.

What to say of the shocker UDRS decision which in the end was match turning one. What if Bell was ruled out LBW in that review when he was on 17? Would still England have come close to a win? Still a match winning almost partnership would have ensured later? None knows, but for sure one fact is clear UDRS is flawed and India have been on the recieiving end of it most times, so they are right in reluctance to use and oppose it the way they have been doing.

The bowling was ridiculously inept, the ball showed no signs of turn the way it did on that warmup game evening vs Australia. The same lad who took 4 that day was pastered yesterday.

It took a Zaheer master class to take 2 on 2 to bring India back into the game when the match looked well lost and people had started leaving.  And then the English collapse started. We were singing the songs of English being the new chokers and the fact that England dont know how to win a ODI as they are content with the Ashes.

Collingwood, Bell, Strauss, Prior and Yardy were dismissed soon and it seemed formality for an Indian victory. But Swann and Bresnan had other plans. They hit 2 sixes in that Chawla over and then Ajmal Shehzad hit Munfa for a 6 off 3rd ball. That brought Eng back to the game.

Strauss played  a untypical English ODI innings, they had forgotten to play ODIs off late but yesterday's Strauss 100 was their best and that outclassed Tendulkar's 120. How many days does it happen?

India got out of the jail and are still undefeated. They have 3 points and are on the top of the table. England are due to play Ireland next and then South Africa.  I'd bet England win both games and India play Holland and Ireland next. So it would be a touch and go between this 2 teams to occupy the top slot and play NZ in the QF.

India has to get its bowling attack worked up and the fielding improved. Agree with Dhoni that bowling can be improved. India has not got the worst bowling attack like it showed up on that night, yes there is a scope of improvement and easy 2 games should give the bowlers some confidence ahead of key clash with South Africa and West Indies.  Munaf Patel is certainly not the right man to bowl the last overs. But unless India doesnt play 3rd seamer in Nehra, the options available for the skipper is limited.

Harbhajan Singh needs to find that belief as a strike bowler. Zaheer was awesome in last spell, but he has to be the same through out the game. Munaf has to be completed bowling before the end overs and Chawala if he plays again, he needs to be confident.

India needs a bowler who has pace and consistency to take wickets. Sreesanth has pace, but he has a lot of flair for drama, leaking runs and antics something we dont want. Nehra is unfit and Ashwin is good to play for IPL.  Ishant Sharma has not yet come good in the ODIs, so the options for India in One days in fast bowling are very narrow and deplete. Praveen Kumar is out injured.

No point in pessimism and abusing the team. The same team has got us victories in away conditions, home conditions. And there is no reason why they cannot. They need some good games with the ball and they need wickets. They need some luck which would ensure that when they beat the batsman, the balls dont run to the boundaries or they dont get bad deals from the umpire or the UDRS.

The batting has to be on top and it is actually. Given the easy nature of games ahead, Pathan can be replaced with Raina at 7 to give him some confidence and ensure he is match fit for crucial games ahead. He is a better bowler than Pathan and of course a better fielder. Given the flexibility Indian batting lineup has below 3 or 4, Raina can be accomodated in the batting lineup at the expense of Pathan or resting some crucial player in the next 2 games.

This game has setup a good advert for the 50 over game and set up fascinating contest later this year in England in both tests and ODIs.  One of the best ODI games in recent times even though the wicket was horribly flat and useless.

Monday's games

Monday was a day or  sedate games after a super sunday which saw probably one of the greatest world cup finish. That later. Today's games were Canada vs Zimbabwe and West Indies vs Netherlands.

Netherlands were the usual minnow today who got the pastering with both bat and ball. They conceeded a hattrick to Kemar Roach who also took the first 6-for of the tournament. The Netherlands that turned up on England game day didnt turn up and were comprehensively beaten today. WI play next against Bangladesh and prolly that would decide the 4th qualifier for the quarter finals from the Group B.

Canada and Zimbabwe was almost an inconsequential and formal game that would have no bearing over the final 4 qualifiers to the QF from group A.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka

On a day of glorious batsmanship from Sachin Tendulkar and unexpectedly Andrew Strauss, I chose to write on the tie between Pakistan and Sri Lanka that took place on the Saturday. It was a tie SL was expected to win hands up, instead they lost hands down.

The 2 old lads of Pak cricket -- Younus and Misbah led the team to a total of 277 followed by some good bowling by Shoaib Akhtar and Shahid Afridi. The Lankans fell short by 11 runs and in the end its heard that a panic has been setup in their camp.

Sangakara as usual made 49 without going on to win a game for his country. Jayawardhena after all praising and writing made just 2 and got his stumped ripped off an Akhtar beauty.  Chamara Silva, Kulasekra and Angelo Matthews tried in the end but it was too late and SL tasted their first home world cup defeat. Huh? Whom they had played before in the home games? 1996 ? Serious teams refused to tour them in 1996 and then they played Zimbabwe and Kenya at home and now Canada and Pakistan.

Period.

As I said before as all the high talk this lads do is good for the weak and hapless teams. When the stronger teams come, this lads just freeze up and lose.

And thats why this team wont win the world cup.

Lanka ki hawa tight

Blabberings vanished in the thin air, the 100 maker is comprehensively bowled, the Test batsman is out stumped to Pathan and now only the Sanga Nanga remains on the crease.

0/75 to 4/93.

Stuff champions are made of? Mahela's ass. Get off. If you talk big, show it on the field else shut your freaking mouth shut.

Alle Alle. Wickets fall alle alle.

Russell Arnold is quiet now after boring us of how good every one in Lankan team is. Where is he now?

Why India should win the world cup and no other country should

I support bloody men in blue. Men in blue which hail from the land of corruption, land of Sonia Gandhi and MMS. Its a big thing that I support bloody men in blue despite all their faults, their falliability to the mistakes on the field, their larger than life stature on the field, the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and of course MS Dhoni, the man from Jharkhand.

These men are good enough to give any team run of their money, be it from the down south Sri Lanka or neighbour Pakistan or even down under Australia.

We do have falliables like Freesanth bholaram sakharam DK but we also have the likes of GOD, his look alikes, Dhoni, Kohli, Sardar and of course Appaam Chu***nandan shiromani Sreesanth. But when combined this bloody men can give any team in the world a good pasting, a good defeat by the virtue of the cruel bat. These men inflict wounds, scars on the soul, long lasting impact good enough to decode people of their mystery, This men prompt the likes of Kumar Fungasakara to ask his bowlers bowl deliberate no balls or even prompt the likes of Graeme Swann or Ravi Bopara to speak high like "bring on the bloody Indians" or "silence the Indian crowd".

Yeah we are bloody Indians, corrupt, mismanaged and of course pampered. We dont  have the best of infrastructure in the world, we may be corrupt and regionalistic. We might bother about Gandhis, Kalmadis, Rajas, Karunas and other Mamtas, but we bloody care about our cricket. We want revenge, we want the bloody world cup to be in India. Snatch it from bloody Aussies and keep it in India. Not to win it for an individual but for the spirit of cricket, for that unknown cricket fan that spends  invaluable time of his life watching his idols. Idols in infalliable guys like Sehwag, Tendulkar, Dhoni, Yuvraj and of course Harbhajan.

We want the cup to be ours. Not of the bloody Lankans who want to win for a chuck. We want to win it for a man who has played cricket with all purity, divine intervention and bloody cold blooded humility and honesty for 21 years, who did not ask any rule to be bent for his brand of game or who did not break any tv set in his life or did not ask any umpire to give the opposition players out on any illegal catch. Or somebody who talked big and delivered less or nothing. We want to win for men who keep low profile and do the talking on the field when it matters, We want to win the cup for bloody top Test playing nation, we want to now capture the topmost ODI crown too.

Yup, we bloody Indians want to win the world cup. No matter where we are, in India or USA or troubled waters of Mid east, we want to win the damn world cup. That would quench out thirst for a world title. None deserves to win the title as bloody Indians as much we have waited for 28 years  to get the coveted trophy to where it deserves, bcos we play our cricket clean, we dont have chuckers, we dont have Pricks, we dont have slingers, we dont have spot fixers, we dont have cheaters, we dont have womanizers, we dont have idiots, we have cricket playing men whom we adore more than the national icons. We want the cup to be called bloody world champions Indians.

Yeah the cup belongs to India and only India.

Bholaram Sakharam DK Sreesanth

Muppet Sreesanth is now so much angered at his own incompetence and the ridicule he is inviting with every passing game he plays, that he is now hurting his own team mates with ball and bat. He hit Yuvraj one with the ball and then Eric Simmons when he batted in the nets.

Muppet forgets that he has to bowl that well and bat that well (if need be) in a real game and not in nets. He is for the sake of everybody be taken off the team and shown the way to a dance studio or a realty show. That suits him better as his theaterics and drama would get some audience. If he shows that all in the middle he is going to get abuses and ridicule. He is a big Bholaram Sakharam DK.

West Indies vs South Africa

West Indies and South Africa played out the first game in Northern India of the world cup and it was being played in the capital city of India and the home ground of Delhi trio -- Sehwag, Gambhir and Kohli. The same ground which had itself banned from hosting international games in Dec 2009 hosted a match today and did so well. The Ferozshah Kotla, the ground which has its own legacy and has 2 record milestones achieved on this ground : Kumble's 10 and Sachin's 35th Test 100 in 1999 and 2005 respectively.
Back to this match, the Windies started off well to race to 1/114 and then losing wickets in "clusters" as Darren Sammy later said and Nasser Hussein said on the air.  Barring Darren Bravo's 73 and his brother's 40 none could go onto make a big score as AB did later and that was the difference between 222 and 272.  The likes of Gayle, Sarwan and Chandu failed and there went the Windies chance to stamp the authority over the Saffers.
The Windies were also done in by debutant spinner Imran Tahir's 4/41 figures in his debut game. He bowled with subtle control and variation, turned the ball square and along side Johan Botha controlled the Windies run making spree. South Africa are taking the spin bowling a bit too seriously when they opened the bowling with Botha and played 3 spinners.
223 was not going to be a score that would have scared SA, but they did for a while when they lost Amla and Kallis early with just 20 on the board, WI sensed some victory but AB jolted them with a fine 100. He knows the ground in and out as he has played 2 IPLs here for Delhi Daredevils in 2008 and 2010.  Smith was scratchy given he was ill and Duminy played a perfect partner to the 4th wicket partnership that saw SA home.
SA remain 2nd on the group behind India on NRR and they now wait another week to play their next game against Netherlands.
Positives for SA :
  • Spin bowling especially Johan Botha opening
  • Imran Tahir's promising debut
  • Dale Steyn's late overs burst
  • AB Devilliers form
Positivies for WI :
  • Darren Bravo's batting
  • Suleiman Benn opening the attack and getting the turn
  • Kemar Roach
Besides they have a man called Chandu Paul in their team who doesnt make runs when needed, doesnt pace his innings, yet finds himself in top 10 of every ICC ranking. Weird!!!

Pakistan vs Kenya

Today's game was yet another anticlimax and another testimony to the ICC's decision to kick minnows out of the 2015 world cup. The Pakistani batsmen got in runs except opening pair. 4 middle order 50s, captain getting 5-for, best for a captain in world cup, Shoaib Akhtar lasting 5 overs in spell and fielding being rarely good and electric. What else Pakistan wanted. Rarely they have kickstarted a world cup with a win. Going back with the facts and figures this was just their 4th opening match victory in last 24 years (1987, 1996,1999). They lost in 1992, 2003 and 2007.
What was an anticlimax was the approach Kenyans took. They openly showed that they had no intent to go for the chase and they were just going through the motions, that is doing a formality of turning up in the field and batting. They conceeded 37 wides amidst 50 extras and thus fuelled the debate that minnows who dont show intent to perform better, dont show the zeal to learn and step up their performance should be kicked out.
Kenya is going to provide an easy fodder for all teams and mainly Sri Lanka would look forward to a  gigantic demolition when they play this team.
Netherlands and Ireland are two minnows who look good to scare the top teams in respective groups. Netherlands have already scarred England to deepest and I would count Ireland favorite against Bangladesh on Friday.
The bigger test for Pakistan comes this Saturday when they take on Sri Lanka in one of their most important games of the tourney (another would be vs Australia).

Best Middle Order Effort reads 11,21,2, 18 and 7

There was a headline in the Cricinfo feed that Mahela Jayawardhene praised the middle order for their effort.

A look at the middle order performance and leaving out his 100 and captain's 92, the other efforts read 11,21,2, 18 and 7 (last 2 being not out). By what standards are this numbers praiseworthy? What did MJ smoke before writing that article or blabbering again in the media?

Have Lankans decided that they are always going to say good things, show great attitude in the field even when the middle order fails, the mystery bowler fails to take wickets for the top order?  Are they always going to say politically correct things in the public thus fooling themselves?

We've never heard any real feedback from the MJs and Sangas in the media about the problems / issues facing their team. They are always following well laid processes, are as good as they can and you can add as many jargons / words / phrases as you wish, but still Lankans are not the world beaters in any format. They have failed to win a Test match after Murali retired, yet they are .......

Aus vs Zim Review

Now you know one thing what not to keep around Ricky Ponting when he returns to he pavillion after being dismissed at a score he doesnt expect he would make.  Dont keep any alive persons around, dont keep electronic equipments around, may be some soft toys would do.  Smashing a LCD tv in the dressing room is very kiddish thing to do, something which under 10 age kids do when they dont get the things their way.  This just goes onto show how much damn frustrated Ricky Ponting is on the turnaround of events.
Yet he continued his unbeaten runs as captain in the world cup, Australia stretched their unbeaten streak to 30 games without being undefeated and 25 to last loss.
Yet the stature of World Cup champions or the stamp was missing. Victory by 91 runs and Zimbabwe stretching till 46 odd overs is pathetic for a bowling unit tht boasts of fearsome trio of Johnson, Tait and Lee.
The spinners of Zimbabwe much of whom are unheralded and by no means threatening were able to strangle Australians for the start of their innings. The opening pair of Australia got a start of 32 in 13 overs against dibbly and dobbly pacers of Zimbabwe. Much in the contrast with what Hayden and Gilchrist used to get in their pomp.  Haddin did not get a start, he looked scratchy. Ponting got starts in the warmups but did not get one in the real contest. And probably thats what led him to damage the LCD in the dressing room. Or was he an agent of Congress party to do a damage in Modi ruled GCA ground?
Clarke got a 50, but the other batsmen except Watto just scratched around like dogs do.
Zimbabwe by the way showed no intent to chase the target of 263 at any point of their chase. Yet they raced on till 170. If they could have taken the powerplay before 45 overs, that could have given a scare to the Aussies and more frustrations from Ponting and perhaps more damage from the ground. May be Ponting should be kept away from any room which has costly equipments in it.  The Zimbabweans did not opt for 3rd power play, only that they reached 45th over and they had to be provided batting power play, they had to take it.
If Aussies dont get their tasks cut out and improve hereon, they are sure to end up well before the finals stage and then you can imagine more damage and frustrations from Ricky Ponting.
Such games in addition to the Can vs SL and NZ vs Kenya are disgrace to the world cup which is the largest and grandest showcase for 50 over games. It should be sans of any blemishes and easy victories. And for that the ICC should kick out the minnows who do not benefit by playing bigger teams in 1, 2, ,3 ,4 world cups. Have 1 or 2 associate teams which compete hard and are capable to scare any top ranked team. May be Netherlands and Ireland fit that bill. Certainly Kenyans and Canadians dont fit that.

Sreesanth problem

The biggest headache for the next game against England will be the 3rd pacer or the 2nd spinner.  Sreesanth or Ashish Nehra or Piyush Chawala?

Most probably Sreesanth wont be risked against the strong teams. He is a definite ticket to a loss no matter what the target is for the opposition team. May be Ireland or Netherlands could be an easy meat for Sreesanth to experiment his waywardness and inconsistency, but certainly not against England, SA and West Indies.

He is going to be one big headache and a liability that would travel to all places where India would play. Unfortunate as it is, equally it is potent threat to derail India's world cup campaign. One man cannot be allowed to derail the well planned campaign since last 2 and half years. May be Ishant Sharma could have been a better replacement for injured Praveen Kumar instead of this bigot.

Lineup next week in world cup

The next few games in the world cup before the big games from Thursday - Sunday kick off are :

Monday : Australia  vs Zimbabwe at Motera

Tuesday : England vs Netherlands at Jamtha

Wednesday : Kenya vs Pakistan at Hambantota

The big boys should win this games convincingly. Although Australia could be vulnerable to the spin and Pakistan are unpredictable, England should find it easy to win before they prepare for rampant India in Bangalore.

The lineup from Thursday till Sunday is tempting.

Thursday : SA vs WI at Kotla

Friday : Australia vs New Zealand

Saturday : SL vs Pak

Sunday : India vs England

And on Monday 28th, its back to the minnows Canada vs Zimbabwe and WI vs Netherlands.

I dont think so WI would face difficulty advancing to the quarters. Only thing they would need to do is to beat Bangladesh and overcome minnows. They are through to the quarters and would then can go the 1996 way.

That thing called Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag, the bloody Indian opening batsman.  Bloody buffoon. Kickass opener. What else should I say about this Delhi Jat. No brains, just brutal power. No messing up. Simple style of play. Bad ball, he would hit it. Doesnt matter who the hell is the bowler. Shakib or Rubell or Bow Wow, Randibaaj Suraj or even the Chuck himself. Ask any bowler around the world. Better ask Pakistanis. Lankans call him Shewag.

He has demolished them too. The merchants of pace, swing and reverse swing. Of course spot fixed no balls too. He deposited even Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis in stands on that glorious Centurion evening 8 years and 2 world cups back.

Ask Sangakara who is so scared of this idiot Indian batsmen that he asks Randibaaj Suraj to bowl no balls. He might seem poor man's Amir or Asif which occured well before spot fixing saga. If he did not score a 100 on that game day, he yet demonized Sangakara and other Lankans. They swear in private they wont take on Indian ODI or test team which has Sehwag in it.

Either he would make a 294 in a Test against them or he would make a 146 in a ODI. No respite. No swearing has its effect. The man lives by his own rules, his own standards. Now the bufoon is saying he would bat 50 overs. Like I said before what would happen if he bats 50 overs, the Deshis had a bitter taste of it yesterday in Mirpur.

There are so many wannabe Sehwags around. There is Dilshan in Lanka who emulates Sehwag but runs out of steam around 50-80 mark. Then there is Tamim Iqbal who steps more often than not yet fails to emulate the man. Then there is Shane Watson who is doing a Sehwag for Prick Tonping.

There can be many emulators, but there is one and only Sehwag. Rattle him with short stuff, he wont play pull. Bowl him in his ribs, he would counter it. Sledge him he would deposit you into stands or even throw you out of the stadium, be it Mirpur or Hamba ka tota or his own backyard of Kotla. Rajkot too.

Dilip Vengsarkar is now proved an idiot and to an extent MSD too, who had dropped this idiot from the CB series finals in favor of Sir Rohit Sharma.  When Sehwag bats the way he does most of the times, the opposition reduces to the local club side. There are many who try to be "shahahne" like Ponting or Sangakara, but they are soon proved assholes by the man who knows no stopping when in full flow. That is Virender Sehwag for you. Unique and unparalleled.

Match 2 : NZ vs Kenya

The mismatch between NZ and Kenya is something ICC had in mind when they reduced the number of teams in 2015. Thats precisely reducing the interest in the world cup in matches not involving strong teams. And if this matches continue to produce one sided results then ICC is right in shunting out associate nations from the world cup. Kenya have been playing world cups since 1996 and  this is their 5th world cup. Barring 2003 when they reached semis, thanks to a victory against SL and a forfeit against NZ, they have not exactly set the games on fire when they have played.....

Expect more such results when the other lopsidedly matches are played.

February 19, 2011

Sreesanthhhhhhhhhhhhhh

24 runs off a single over, balls flying over the ground, no balls and wides. And thats Sreesanth for you...Throw out this fuckass from the team!!!

India : 370/4

India scored 370 for 4 in 50 overs in their first game in the world cup against now minnows Bangladesh. That is almost the double they scored in 2007 against the same team.  The hero of the game was the man from Delhi, the vice captain of the team -- Virender Sehwag.

A massive 175 off  139 balls and he just missed out on the 200. But he ensured that the match is almost in India's pocket and the revenge is almost over. He is not a man popular in Bangladesh with 2 statements he has made off late. One in 2010 when he said BD are ordinary Test side and two when he said he is looking for the game as  revenge game.

He ran out Tendulkar in an amateurish mixup, but thereon he took the game in his stride and ensured team crossed 300. He just hit 1 6 before 100 and then hit 4 more in another 75. He injured himself later which otherwise would have seen him go past 200.

Gambhir was at his fluent best until he had a brain freeze and dismissed himself without covering the stumps.

Kohli got a debut 100 too and perhaps he is first Indian to do so. Ganguly made 97 in 99 world cup previous highest. He perhaps has edged out Raina for long time to come unless Yuvraj finds way back to 2010 types form.

Though India looked good to cross 390 mark, they hit less 4s in last 5 overs than they would have liked. Yet 371 is a formidable total and India should not find much difficulty wrapping the game. Yes the idiot mofo Sreesanth is playing, but somebody would need to calm that muppet and ensure he does not leak runs in retail.

BD were horrible with the ball and much of their hopes in chase would depend on how Tamim Iqbal starts. Dont forget Zaheer Khan has a point to prove against him....

Bobilli Parajai Kumar is back!!!

The fuckass, mofo Times Of India writer Bobilli Parajai Kumar rants shit again on the worst ever newspaper of the world.

He had been pessimist all along and was a profounder of the VRS for the fab 4 after the Sri Lankan debacle of 2008.

Indian cricket has come a long way, but the media reportage is still pathetic and guys like Bobilli make it even worse. One hand we have all the optimism in the world and on the other hand Times of India is spreading pessimism with lunatic journalism like above!!

A night in Lankan camp before their game against Canada

When Sangakara and Mahela Jayawardhena, the Indie commando were retiring to the team rooms to go to their respective wives, a night before the world cup kick started and they had ranted enough to put the remainder of Lankan team to sleep in the confrence room itself, they saw a fat man barging the hotel in deep anger.

Alongside the fat man the blabba kings saw a familiar figure step in but in an apologetic mode.

The fat man came to Sangakara and Jayawardhena and said "You fools, you are good for nothing idiots. You let the bloody Indians take away the record for highest world cup total in 2007. BD and you guys kicked India's ass out, but they kicked my team's ass out of the record we had for the highest score in a world cup game. I bloody dont care if you send off Murali on a high note or not, dont care if you, the talkative bufoon joins me in the world cup winning captain group of this Ravana country. All I want is the record back. Beat the 413 record and get it on the name of Ravana country."

The familiar man was in tears and nostalgic mood. He said "I remember Saar making 145 runs in that game in Kandy vs Kenya and we made 398 runs and that stood until that Prick's Australia made 438." And he bursts into tears.

Sanga and Mahela are still stunned.

The fat man continues " You mofos, I installed pride in Lankan krikat by going for all sorts of records thus killing the spirit of krikat. I told my boys to make records and have all records on their names. Beat minnows big, continue batting for 3 days, 4 days and let wins go to hell, but Sri Lankan krikat should hold all records. See we have 576, 952, 624, 374, 287 and we had 398. We also have 443. But we dont have highest record for a world cup match. Make it you fools or else I would ask President to put you in jail like he did to the army chief Fonseka."

Sanga felt motivated and his character tonic felt an unimaginable rush.

Fat man and the apologetic man left and Jayawardhena was motivated.  Sanga called up the entire team and started ranting about the records and Mahela said "Yes we are the Ravana country. Like he had record for 10 heads, we would have records for all batting and bowling. I would rant it in cricinfo, Sanga you rant in the match conf".

Suddenly Thilana Samaraweera got up and said "Sanga saar, I am the king of batting long, long and making double hundreds. Dont worry saar, I would bat long as i can and block the balls. I would put the opposite captain to sleep and yawn. I would make 200 runs and I would bat 3 days in row in the World Cup".

Sangakara got and hugged Samaraweera. He went up and called fat man. "Saar, can you ask ICC to mend the records of ODI krikat to ensure that Sri Lankan batsmen can bat for 3 days in row. And then we shall reclaim all our records. Please do it as you did it for Murali to tweak the 15 degree rule to allow him to throw balls, err...bowl his regular stuff".

Fat man agreed and called up Sharad Pawar, the ICC chief who tried to speak to him in Bangla, but fat man knew just Englis and Sinhala. With help of a translator fat man explained Pawar his intention, but Pawar rebuked him and reminded that "this is one day cricket which is over in 6.5 hours".

Fat man was angry but he could not do anything. Later he called back Sangakara and said "Ask Thilana Samaraweera to bat long in Tests, not in ODIs.  Have somebody make 300 and ensure team crosses 500 in 40 over mark and then declare the innings."

Sangakara and Mahela nodded and decided to toe the fat man's order.

InsaneSanth's plans to tame Deshi batsmen in Mirpur

Last heard, Ashish Nehra is injured and out of WC opener (ndtv reports) so our insane bhai is gearing up for the game and he is thought to have got some new swearing dictionary books and learning new Bong abuses.

He is also thought to have asked for a special chariot with 2 horses who can dance on Malyalam and Hindi tracks as he does on taking every wicket, preferably Australian. He would ride the chariot and bowl to Tamim Iqbal.

Tamim's best reputation to India is the dance down the wicket to Zaheer in 2007 World Cup. So insane bhai thought Tamim bhi dancer, me bhi dancer. Dancer dancer bhai bhai. So i shall ride a chariot and bowl to the guy and dare him to hit him for a 6.  And if Tamim dances down the track to Insanesanth, then Santh bhai is going to roll his hip and start dancing on "appudi powadi kowa" song from Mehmood's old film.

Insanesanth has also decided that he would now curse in Malyalam to everybody so that none understands the abuse and when he is taken to match referee he would get a benefit of doubt just like Harbhajan  got in 2008 when he cursed Teri Maa ki to Andrew Symonds. And guess who would rescue him? MSD himself.

So guys whereas we are deciding on what package for live streaming to be purchased to watch the world cup, Insanesanth is busy enriching his swear repository dictionary and dance steps along side learning Bangla to abuse the hapless BD batsmen whom he thinks would fade once they see the fire in his eyes and his belly.

Sreesanth would then dance starting on song " Tere Naina Mere Naina" from film "My Name is Khan".  You see he bamboozles BD batsmen with his fiery drunk insomniac eyes and then he starts dancing on "Tere Naina Mere Naina".....

Ashish Nehra when he heard that Insanesanth is going to play the first game, he is trying best to convert his sore back to normal back and play the game.

MSD was not available to confirm or deny if Insanesanth would play first game tomorrow morning!!

Preview : India vs Bangaladesh

Its time for the action -- real action to begin in the Mirpur and take the first step in demolishing the daemons of 2007. Its a war cry and may be a revenge, but we need to set the world cup record right. Since that defeat India has not lost to Bangaldesh again, though it came close in 2007 tour, but MSD saved the blushes then.
Its the high time the action unfolds and whatever be the outcome of the toss be, the Indians should look to thump the Deshis big time to send a message next to every one.
Let Zaheer take care of Tamim Iqbal this time thus removing the dance down the wicket memories of 2007.  Let Sehwag unleash the rampage he usually does.
Score big if bat first and wind them up within 100 as Lanka does. Take care of Tamim and the rest would unfold like the pack of cards.
Since that painful defeat India played BD 7 times and won every time. 5 times in their own backyard, once in Pakistan and once in Sri Lanka.  MSD won the toss 2 times and lost 5 times. 5 of those wins are in D/N games and 2 in day games. And India won 6 of those games batting 2nd.
Team:
1. Sehwag
2. Tendulkar
3. Gambhir
4. Yuvraj
5. Kohli
6.  MSD
7.  Pathan
8. Zaheer
9. HArbhajan
10. Chawla
11.  Nehra
Go get'em guys!!

My Name is Sreesanth and I am not an idiot

My name is Santh and I am not a bigot.........

My name is Sreesanth and I am not an idiot

My name is Dancer and I am not a tuchiya........

My name is Freesanth and I am not an actor

My name is Shantha and I am not sane, but clinically insane!!!

Sreesanth was found humming this lines in a sleepy night before the opening encounter with the BD in Mirpur after he had seen My Name is Khan on his Arches tab....

Good job BD

The World Cup has got a tremendous start in the capital city of Bangladesh and thus the subcontinent has washed off the blot of disastrous opening ceremony in Calcutta in 1996. This is the first world cup of the new millenium in the subcontinent (precisely focused on India and Bangladesh). And the onus would be on the fans and the adminstrators to ensure the disaster of 2007 is not repeated this time.

Bryan Adams singing for a world cup cricket in Bangladesh is itself a testimony to the fact that how seriously BD has taken the organization of this world cup. Something England would not fancy as its media has been continously skeptical of the world cup in subcontinent.

Indian government has to learn a lot from the Bangaladesh counterpart on how to organize a mega event opening ceremony winning hearts, not just earning money with the OC.

Good job Bangaladesh!!!

Move over, Sreesanth incarnates himself as Indie commando

Updated : If Sreesanth had his way he would have a sword or a gun in his hand instead of a white ball and he would have hit the opposition players with the sword or gun if he would have got hit for runs or ran behind umpire with gun in hand if he did not react positively to his appeal. That he would have actually hit the umpire with the bullet from the gun or his hands would really have caught the real sword instead of a wooden sword, something which is available in North India after every Dusshera Ravan dahan celebration, is another thing!!!

And if Sreesanth had more power as an Indie Commando, he would have asked for a horse and he would have demanded he would bowl sitting on horse or a mule (complementing himself since he is also an ass) and with sword / gun in left hand and a ball in one. And after delivering the ball, he would turn the horse to umpire or the batsman and run behind them if a) ump did not react positively to his appeal b) batsmen hit him for a 6 and a 4, showing them the gun (plastic) and sword(wooden).....

Thank God, Ijaz Butt would now feel relieved he has got a brother (or son) across the border who is equal to him in terms of mental wisdom, cricketing knowledge and behavior in the public.

Mahela Jayawardhena would be the lead Indie commando in the IPL-4.  And guys like Ravinder Jadeja, Sreesanth (lunatic and clinically insane endorsed by MS) would also be part of it. Indie commandos. As in "Independent Indian cricket team" with "elite fighting squad".

Couldnt get funnier than this. Imagine Sreesanth making a fool of himself while doing his traditional antics and foolishness as an Indie commando or Mahela Jayawardhena shouting something to his team mates as a Sri Lankan Indie commando.

Kochi owners are just making further fun of themselves and also attaching ridicule on the legends like Laxman, Murali, Sir Ravinder Jadeja and of course "Aiblee filim" Sreesanth. Just imagine Ravinder Jadeja and Sreesanth dressed up as Indie commandos. Laughing stock!!!

Clinically insane Sreesanth

Lunatic Shanthakumaran Appam CH**** Sreesanth bowled 5 overs today and leaked out 38 runs in those 5 overs against Kiwis. Even tailenders hit him for 6 and 4. And all the idiot could do was stare the batsmen and chirp away.

What a loser!!!

The best thing that can be done for this lad is to declare him mentally unfit to bowl, dance or act or even lift Laxmi Roy, who knows when he would suffer from mental imbalance and put down the actress on the ground. He is prone to violence any time.

Mentally imbalanced clinically insane unfit to bowl and hard to contain madness bowler Sreesanth

February 15, 2011

Send lunatic Sreesanth to Mental asylum

"I'm a very real person, not an actor. In real life you can't have retakes. Maybe I could become a good actor. Though I am spiritual, I'm not sentimental."

If you can be a good actor, you muppet, get off the world cup arena and get lost to some **wood and show your acting skillls there. If you are playing a damn world cup, be in your limits else it wont be long that you'd be forgotten like Tinu Youhanan was forgotten from your state.

This kinda statements just prove that this guy has his mental balance disturbed whenever he runs into a batsman and thats dangerous. He can get violent anytime. Best place for this lunatic idiot is a mental asylum and not the Indian dressing room!!!

Team Preview : India

Finally its time to preview the team that is best suited to win th world cup. India. Did you hear the drum beats? India. India.
The team that plays the best brand of cricket in all formats, is very successful and has got attractive, aggressive and awesome players who excel in stroke play and positive brand of cricket. Its all about adopting to the situations, the team has players that can set a match alight to the fire and thrill the people.
You have Virender Sehwag, you have Gautam Gambhir, MS Dhoni, Yusuf Pathan and then above all you have Sachin Tendulkar.  No sight is better in One day cricket when Sachin and Sehwag bat together.  I bet if anybody can find better sight than that. No ugly swipes, no Dilscopps, all delight, all improvisation and something that gives you a cricketing orgasm....
You've got Kohli, Dhoni, Yuvraj to come in the middle order, may be at this point Yuvraj and MS are not in the best of the form. Yuvraj in full flow would be a dangerous proposition for any team, something Stuart Broad would testify.
India has the power, ability, hope and fanbase to go all the distance to lift the World Cup trophy on April 2 in Wankhede stadium when everybody in the world would watch.

Team Preview : West Indies

The team preview excersise is almost at its fag end with just two teams remaining : the 1983 world cup winners and the runners up.
West Indies are the only country after Australia(or before) to have won the World Cup 2 times. But the last of their victory came good 32 years back.  The nearest they came to winning a title after the major upset of 1983 was in 1996 in India  - Pakistan when they choked in the semi-final to lose by 4 runs.
Since then its been a poor story for the once strong team in ODIs.
World Cup History
West Indies were the original winners in 1975 and 1979 when they were at the peak of their powers. They had an unimaginable strong team in Haynes, Greenidge, Richards, Lloyd and the bowlers like Marshall, Garner, Roberts and the Whispering Death Michael Holding.  They were expected to win the 1983 edition too but they lost to India may be due to complacency or may be due to the Indian seamers were too good on that day. May be the Indian hunger to establish itself on world stage got better of them. Since then the Windies reached semis only once in 1996.
Despite of heroics of Viv Richards and generosity of Courteny Walsh, they failed to make past the first round in 1987 in subcontinent and that marked the decline of their fortunes. They were knocked out again in first round in Australia 1992 though they had good team then.  They made it to the semis fumbling and tottering to choke in the end to lose by 4 runs in 1996. 1999, 2003 were sordid affairs and they started off well in their own world cup in 2007 but ended up losing in the super eights.
Current Run Up
Though Chandu feels they can make it this time, but the form has been so poor for them that they have not beaten a test side in last 20 months. They have also lost to a team like Sri Lanka.
They have been bogged down by contract issues, player loyalty issues and captaincy issues. Gayle, Pollard and Dwayne Bravo have refused central contracts thus leaving them to play in cash rich T20 leagues than for the team.
The team not only lacks motivation but also the will power to do good in the international arena.
Team
Gayle, Barath, Chandu, Bravo, Baugh, Benn, Roach, Miller, Pollard, Sammy, Darren Bravo, Sarwan, Ravi Rampal, Russell and Devon Smith
Expectations
Not much, if they are able to get past the quarters they would be akin to winning the world cup. Hoping that they would lose to the strong teams -- England, India and SA, they would need to beat all the minnows and hope they turn up on the good side against Bangladesh and only then they would be in the quarters.

Team Preview : Australia

Team preview series marches on and today its turn of the defending champions and the numero uno team in the ODIs currently Australia.
Australia have been the team to beat in the previous 3 world cups. They have dominated ruthlessly in the previous 3 editions so much so that they are yet to lose a world cup game in 12 years. Ever since Shoaib Akhtar rocked Steven Waugh's stumps in England, 1999 Australia have not been able to lose any game. They came close to losing a few but every time they found somebody or the other as a matchwinner and sailed through. Steve Waugh in the Super 6 vs SA, Shane Warne in the semi-final vs SA in 1999, Andrew Symonds vs Pakistan, Michael Bevan and Andy Bichel (bat and ball) vs England and Bret Lee vs NZ in 2003.
Ricky Ponting has won both world cups as captain in 2003 and 2007, thanks to the players he had at relm like McGrath, Lee, Gilchrist, Hayden, Bevan (2003), Hussey (2007) etc. None of them are around this time (most of them have retired and Hussey is injured), so the aura has certainly diminished in past few years. Ponting himself has been a shadow of past with just 3 hundreds in 3 years in this format.
Run up to the world cup
Australian aura began to diminish late 2008 when they lost home and away to South Africa. Even before they had lost to India in the last edition of CB series early 2008.  They continued losing their great players -- Gilly in 2008 and Hayden, the last of them in 2009. Bret Lee was injured most of the times. Mitch Johnson is erractic. The notable series wins Australia had in this duration was 4-2 against India in 2009 with a depleted team, 6-1 against England home and away(every time they lost the Ashes), 5-0 against Pakistan and West Indies. And of course NZ.
The losses that came to them were 0-1 to India in 2010 that kickstarted the defeats amounting to 7 in the 3 formats and a loss to Sri Lanka in homeyard. Phew how can Sri Lanka win in Australia vs Australia. Now you imagine the decline.  They also lost 2-3 in England but recovered in the time to beat England 6-1 in the home series.
The team
Opening Pair : Brad Haddin, Shane Watson
Middle Order : Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, David Hussey, Cameron White, Callum Fergusson, Tim Paine (reserve keeper and opening bat)
Bowlers: Shaun Tait, Bret Lee, Mitch Johnson, John Hastings, Steven Smith, Doug Bollinger and Jayson Krejza
Likely XI
Haddin, Watson, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey, White, Smith, Johnson, Lee, Krejza, Bollinger / Tait
Strength
The biggest strength of the australia is the pace attack, which could also turn to the biggest weakness. Given the fact that Lee and Tait are super express bowlers who can wreck any batting line up on any pitch any conditions (including Lankan too), they are very much prone to injuries. So Ponting would have a job at hand to carefully handle the 2 super pacers.
Besides Johnson and Bollinger are good bets too.  Bollinger has had good success in Indian pitches in the IPL-3 and almost every one in the team has a fair experience of Indian conditions.
Weakness:
Batting form continues to worry the team fans. Ponting coming from a injury break and his form before the finger injury does not inspire much confidence. Clarke has been in a long rut and now his reputation of best Australian player of spin has been shredded. The batting is prone to collapses and is a bit weak against spin  that was exposed yesterday in the warmup game vs India in Bangalore by Chawla and Harbhajan.
Expectations:
4 years back, they would have been by default world champions, but now the things have changed.  Given the form and the run up to the world cup a title win would be a miraculous achievement, but a semi-final finish would be a worthy one. Anything less than that means Australia's aura has been finished for good.
Match Days
2/21 vs Zim at Motera
2/25 vs NZ at Nagpur
3/5 vs SL at RP, Colombo
3/13 vs Kenya at Bangalore
3/16 vs Canada at Bangalore
3/19 vs Pakistan at RP,Colombo
Expected to win against Zim, NZ, SL, Ken, Can and a tough one against Pakistan :)

Team Preview : England

The preview today is for the Ashes champions and the T20 World Chanpions England. England are the enigmatic side in the world cricket who always focus on Tests and ignore the ODIs. That was till they won the T20 trophy and since then they believe they can win the ODI world cup too.

England have been in a good form in ODIs since 2009 after losing to Australia in ODIs 1-6. Ironically they also lost to Australia with the  same margin this month after winning the Ashes in Australia after 24 years.

England in the previous world cups

England were the most consistent team in the world cups from 1975 to 1992. They made it to every semi final till then and in the final 3 times. They almost won the world cup in 1987 but fell short by 7 runs in massive Eden Gardens.. And by 24 runs in iconic MCG to Imran Khan's cornered tigers in 1992.

Story for them post 1992 has been poor. They could not win against a single Test nation in 1996 and were hammered in the Quarters by a rampaging Sanath Jayasuriya who scored 82 off 44 balls.  In their own world cup in 1999, they exited in the first round itself after they lost to India in the leagues and Zimbabwe upset South Africa.

In 2003 they lost again in the first round but they almost made it to the 2nd round untill Andy Bichel shut the door on them with the bat and the ball in the must win game against Australia. The 2007 world cup campaign was relatively better when they reached super 8s but they lost key games and exited before the semi finals.

Run-up to the 2011

England began the run up to the 2011 campaign in solid style after losing the home series to Aus in 2009. Before that they were hammered 0-5 in Indian tour of 2008. But post Ashes 2009 till Ashes 2011 they did not lose a single ODI series home and away. During this time they won 2-1 in SA, 3-0 in BD and 2-1 home. An emotional 3-2 win against Pakistan followed and similar margin victory against Australia was also ensured by securing a 3-0 lead and then losing the final 2 games.

The injuries have played a key role too behind the 1-6 defeat in addition to the long Ashes campaign, which was their sole focus during the past 2 years. England come into the world cup carrying niggles to Broad, Collingwood, Bresnan and Shehzad.

They have lost their best ODI player in Eoin Morgan whose match winning abilities in any situation would be missed in the sub continent. He is an improvisioned player and that style works in the batsmen friendly wickets in the sub-continent.

The team:

Strauss, Prior, Trott, Collingwood, Pietersen, Bell, Bopara, Swann, Anderson, Broad, Shehzaad, Bresnan, Tredwell, Wright, Tremlett, Yardy

Opening Pair :

Strauss and Prior would be the openers in all probability. Strauss has had a good ODI run post 2009 Kiwi tour and the dramatic step down of KP from the captaincy, otherwise his ODI career seemed over in 2007.

Middle Order:

Collingwood is a doubtful starter in the final XI given his injury and lack of runs. Batting at 7 is not a correct position for him.  Bell at 3 is again a misfit. Actually he is a misfit in every form of the game. Trott at 3, KP at 4,  Bell at 5, Collingwood at 6 and Bopu at 7.

Morgan would have been the best man to do a MS Dhoni or a Cameron White or even a Abdul Razzaq at 5 or 6.

Fast bowling:

Wont be much use to play 3 fast bowlers for England, so one of them is going to be James Anderson and other could be Broad if he is fit.

Spinners would be Swann and one of Yardy and Tredwell.

Expectations:

A quarter finals should be easy way for England to reach, but there on it would depend on their attitude how they take the knock out punch.

Character Rant to kick off!!!

Minnow marauders Lankans have shown their intentions to gobble up the minnows mercilessly by thumping Holland by 156 runs in their first warm up game. So much for their win that their 2 best men in character rant, best men in defining how good Sri Lanka and the youthful team is, didnt need to bat.

They shall murder Kenya, Canada big time in the league games and if they do the same to the strong teams -- Australia, Pakistan and Kiwis would be a question. SL are no longer invincible in their home turf, last few years have shown this to the world. Plus every team that travels to the subcontinent comes with the staple dose of spinners. So if Lanka would be able to maul strong team would be a keen thing to watch.

I am waiting for the talking bufoons in Sanga and Jayawardhena to kick start their rants!!!

Accounting for India's 1st warmup game

India has kick started its world cup campaign with a comfortable win over defending champions in a warm up game. Holds not that good significance but there were few positives out of this game coming out leading up to the tournament opener on next Saturday.

Batting did not click, the usual suspects with the bat continued to fail, the seamers in their whatever quota of overs they got, did not impress. But the biggest positive of this game was the way Chawla bowled. Sure, the aussies set panic for a modest target and they could have won had they got patience.

But Chawla got them to play those foolish shots and thus earn a very good chance to play ahead of Ashwin in the finall 11.

Ashwin as usual was at his restrictive best not looking for wickets. Thats what he is good for. Restrictive line and length, good for blocking runs. But dude we need wickets too in the ODIs to win games, not just stop runs. We dont need defensive mindset spinners. There are lot of part timers -- Pathan, Sehwag, Yuvraj and Raina who do that precisely.

Another baffling question is why the hell did not Tendulkar play in the warm up game? Is he going to go in the world cup on the back of just 4 ODIs in a  year? Has he recovered fully? We got no clue from what MS had to say in the post match talk. Tendulkar has to be in imperious form along side Sehwag to provide fiery starts which India has not got in 2010 thanks to rotating opening pairs and injuries.

The next game is against Kiwis and thats when India would need to finalise the starting XI against BD in the revenge game on 19th.

February 11, 2011

Jai ho Viru!!!

Viru wants to bat long till 50 overs in the world cup and if he is able to then that would be the best thing for the team to happen. I would hope he wants to bat 50 overs in the games that would matter the most (England, South Africa, QF, Semi final and of course the final).

If he bats 50 overs many records are expected to tumble and he certainly would like to add more to the lone century in 13 odd world cup games.

Jai ho Viru!!!!

Team Preview : South Africa

In the ongoing series of team preview, this is the turn of South Africa today. South Africa, the perennial chokers and unlucky ones in the World Cup and similar tournaments. They threaten to walk away with the title every time they begin their campaign, but they fizz out when it matters or as they say they peak out too soon.  This time its going to be no different. The preview of the things to come was very much visible when they lost 2 games to India from winning positions and the fact that they have not won any ODI series convincingly against strong teams since Australia 2009.

Current Form

They started 2009 with a bang by defeating Australia 4-1 away and 3-2 home after losing the test series. They won against Zimbabwe and West Indies in this duration 5-0 and 5-0 and that inflates their winning score of 26-13. Take this 10 wins and that reads 16-13.  They lost in the CT in their own backyard and lost to England 1-2 followed by a 1-2 defeat in India in 2010.

After that they won against India and Pakistan 3-2 but not before stuttering and fumbling till the final game of the series.

World Cup record

1992 : Semi final exit owing to the disastrous rain rule which left them to chase 21 off 1 ball when the rain stuck.

1996 : Quarter final exit to a master class from Brian Lara after having won all 5 league games convincingly. First signs of choking.

1999: Semi final exit thanks to the epic defeats to Australia in Super 6 and then the tied semi - final. Thanks to the master class from Lance Clusener, they came close witin a run to go the finals, but Donald panicked and the rest is history, Herchelle Gibbs dropped that sitter from Steve Waugh in the super 6 clash and since then SA lost its steam in the world cups till date.

2003 : Again choked in the must win game against Sri Lanka. Mark Boucher wrongly interpreted the D/L rule and when they needed 1 run to go through the next round, he defended the last ball only to find that they are out of the world cup. Earlier, they had lost to NZ in a high scoring game and the tied game with Lanka meant they crashed out in the first round itself in their own world cup. Shaun Pollock lost his captaincy and Graeme Smith, 22  was elevated to the captaincy which he shall quit post 2011 world cup.

2007 : Peaked too early and when it mattered lost to Australia in the semi-final by bundling out to a sub 150 score. They scored big in the league and the super 8 stage, but when it mattered they choked and exited in the semis.

Team

Smith, Amla, Kallis, AB Devilliers, Duminy, Faf Du, Ingram, Morne Van Vyk, Steyn, Morkel Morne, Tahir, Tsotsobe, Parnell, Botha, Robbie Pieterson

Opening:

Smith and Amla form a terrific opening partnership given the form Amla is in over last couple of years. This pair ranks one of the best opening pairs in the world cup after the most prolific pair of Tendulkar - Sehwag.

Middle Order:

With Kallis not around in the ODI series against India in SA, the middle order looked shaky, brittle and the tail was a bit long. Kallis would do well to regain his # spot and also play up as a bowler who could bowl close to his quota of overs.  AB and Duminy would be dangerous at 4 and 5 with 2 of Ingram, Morne Van Vyk and Faf Du occupying 6 and 7. Faf Du impressed in the only game he played before the squad was announced. AB has been in prolific ODI form over last few seasons, so the team would look forth for some runs in the tournament which matters the most.

Bowling:

SA has got the best bowler of the world in Tests in their ranks, but he has not played that many games to qualify as threatening in the ODIs as well. But given any day he can still extract the pace out of placid flat tracks, he would be dangerous.  Morne Morkel is the support cast to the hero Dale Steyn and the conditions in the subcontinent would be as such that one of Parnell and Tsotsobe would play at most of the times. ALso its possible that neither could play as Kallis can be the 3rd seamer and the next 2 bowling spots would be occupied by the spinners.

Tahir, Pietersen and Botha are the spinners in the team. Tahir is unknown commodity and the other 2 are at their best, restrictive bowlers. Neither of them would be expected to play an attacking spinner role. Smith and Duminy would roll over their arms when and if required.

Expectations:

On paper, SA look balanced team and Ponting has classified SA as one of the team to look for, but in the given reality South Africa could do well only if they gave up choking and raised their game when required.

A quarter final entry looks easy but after that its going to be how they play on the given day.

Match days:

 2/24 vs WI,
3/3 vs Netherlands at Mohali (SA fast bowlers would love this),
 3/6 vs England,
3/12 vs India (Nagpur, Dale Steyn would have fond memories of this ground),
 3/15 vs Ireland
and 3/19 vs BD (SA would look for revenge against BD as would India)

Team Preview : Pakistan

This time its turn of Pakistan to be previewed. Pakistan, the most controversial, most unpredictable team of the top 8 teams in the world cup. They are just jolted from the lengthy bans handed out to the 3 idiots of England tour, but then that was anticipated and the team seems to have moved on from that.
Trivia:
  • Pakistan have not reached beyond 1st round in last 2 world cups : 2003 and 2007.
  • After they won in 1992, they reached QF in 1996 and ended 2nd best in 1999. Since then its been a downhill for them.
  • After 1999 they have not played with a same captain in 2 consecutive world cups. Wasim Akram in 1996 and 1999 was last one after Imran Khan in 1987 and 1992.
  • Waqar Younis, the current coach was a flop in the world cups. He missed 1992 edition to injury, was off color in 1996, injured in 1999 and had a disastrous outing as captain in 2003.  Lets c how does he fare as coach in 2011.
  • 2007 was most tragic world cup for Pakistan, they lost to Ireland and West Indies and then they lost Bob Woolmer forever and Inzamam retired from ODIs after world cup and from tests later in 2007.
  • They have not yet beaten India in 4 world cup appearences to date. They lost out in 1992, 1996, 1999 and 2003. 1999 was most anticipated game as it was played during Kargil war backdrop and 2003 game was first one after the asia cup game in 2000.  If they play in this world cup, it would be first in a year and just 3rd in 3 years.
  • They have never lost to SL in the world cup and we'd expect them to do the same this time too.
Team composition:
Afridi, Younis, Hafeez, Misbah, Razzaq, Rehman, Gul, Junaid, Kamran, Umar Akamal, Ajmal, Wahab, Akhtar, Shafiq, Shehzad
Opening Pair
They had good opening partnerships in their last series before the world cup. Shehzad and Hafeez might not have flair, but they are solid and if one of them sticks around and plays over, they could go long distance. Kamran Akamal is other option to go with the opening as he has had decent success with bat in that position. Many times he has had batted at no 3 as well and many times lower down the order.
Middle Order
Younis Khan at 4 and Misbah at 5 provide the stability and cool head when needed. Umar Akamal at 6 and maverick Afridi at 7 followed by Razzaq at 8. Batting seems long and dangerous untill they dont self implode or explode on their own.
If anybody out of Razzaq and Afridi gets going in the final 10 overs then the team could be expected to notch high scores. But the main problem is consistency. You never know which Pakistan side would turn up on a given day, which player would be a hero one day, villian the other day and flown the other day and banned the other some day. Shafiq has been replacing Umar off late though.
Bowling:
They dont have Asif and Amir, but they have Gul and Akhtar. Gul is one of the best bowlers today with the old ball and he has had good success in ODIs off late (England tour he took consecutive 4-fors). Akhtar, if fit can deliver 140 + balls consistently, can go for runs and also implode with wickets.  Junaid Khan is unknown commodity. Wahab Riaz has had decent success with the ball too.
Abdur Rehman, Ajmal and Afridi along with Hafeez form the spin department. Ajmal is the trump card of Pakistan and if he is conquered then it wont be long to demoralise the others in the pack.
Expectations
Controversies apart and given that Ijaz Butt keeps his butt away from the team and there is no other controversy, the team should find easy way to go through to the quarters. Hopefully they would beat Sri Lanka big time.
Game Changers :
Already covered in other post.
Negative Influence:
1. Kamran Akamal
2.  Shoaib Akhtar
3. Younis Khan
and
Ijaz Butt

World Cup Injury Dashboard updated

Injury dashboard:
This time its entry from Pakistan and thats due to injury and not due to any bans or suspensions.
Injured Player: Sohail Tanvir
Replaced By : Junaid Khan
Last heard, Sanath and Chaminda are still awaiting on anybody getting injured in SL team and they seem to be pretty miffed by the statement from Kumar
"Some of the big-time legends are not with us this time. There is a kind of a more youthful look around the team and hopefully that will help us this time"
Time will tell if that helps or harms.

Why are Lankan grounds hosting games when they are not ready?

It seems that the Lankan grounds of Pallekele and Hambanatota are not ready yet. Despite this, the matches would go on those grounds as scheduled.  The training facilities at those grounds are not yet ready and Sangakara himself has voiced the disappointment over that fact

On the same hand, the renovation in Eden Gardens was not complete and it has already been snatched of a marquee clash thus robbing Kevin Pieterson an opportunity of life time.

Why different yardsticks for 2 different countries for same fact?

Mr Sharad Pawar what are you doing? Punishing your own Eden Gardens while sparing the Lankan grounds? Why ? The Jaggu factor?

Have same yardsticks ICC for all grounds even if they belong to relatively poor Sri Lanka.

Game Changers

Pakistani game changers:

1. Abdul Razzaq
2. Shahid Afridi
3. Saeed Ajmal
4. Umar Gul

Beware of this folks. Moreso with the spinach man. On his day he can be as lethal as anybody in the game and on a off day he can go unnoticed. Umar Gul is 2nd best with the old ball after Zaheer Khan of India. Ajmal at many times can be difficult to pick up.

West Indies:

1. Chris Gayle
2. Dawyne Bravo
3. Suleiman Benn

Chandu is still around. How old is he? Does he make runs? Does he even play? Never seen him getting out or make runs, yet he is top 10 ranked. Weird. Sarwan is back in form and would play in India where he has got runs alongside Gayle.

Bowling looks thin and almost non-existent so batsmen would have to bat tall and big.

Kiwis:

1.  Jesse Ryder
2. Baz McUllum
3. Danny Vettori
4. Ross Taylor

South Africa

1. Jacques Kallis
2. Dale Steyn
3. Hashim Amla
4. AB Devilliers

Next : India, SL and Australia

German hits on my blog

Team preview : NZ has got close to 1000 hits in 2 days and that too from a non cricketing country Germany. Wondering what's in that post that has  got so much interest from a country that does not play or follow cricket. No abuses, no Sangakara mention in that post, yet the hits it is receiving is a bit weird and unusual.

No wonder the post on Kumar Sangakara is 2nd highest in terms of hits, but then the man has  got his followers all over.

Folks from Germany, please speak up what brings you in here

Ban 3 idiots

The cricketing world awaits the verdict on the 3 idiots of the Pakistan cricket team including a prospective young star fast bowler, a serial drug peddler and a captain who also led in the wrong doings. They already have been slated to face prosecution in England in March by the CPS and today's ICC verdict is going to nail them further.

The ICC should hand them no less than many years ban so as to act as a deterrent for the other players who would otherwise step into the murkier world of spot fixing, cheating.

However their fate has got nothing to do with the mercurial Pakistan team who now has registered a Test and ODI series win in long long time even if the team against it was Kiwis. The team seems to have moved on from this 3 players and have been winning quite easily without the 3 idiots.

They took England and SA to the final game of the ODI series, they won here in Kiwiland and drew with SA in the Sheikhland.

They wont be favorites in the world cup, but they wont be pushovers either. They at this moment look good to advance beyond first round after 12 years.

Coming back to the 3 idiots, they should now give up the dream to play for their country again, but then stop. Its Ijaz Butt and the PCB. Anything is possible and the drama is not over yet unfortunately!!!
