Wasim Akram!!!!!!

Did I read it right that Wasim Akram dedicated Pakistan's T20 World cup win to its "brave army"?

I mean was he in senses or was he drunk in the commentary box ? What has army got to do with this ?

Seriously. The Pakistan players and commentators in addition to Butt and Miandad need be given some refresher courses on communication skills.

Meanwhile while googling this I found interesting forum link where few people werent so happy to see their team win.

What would ya watch ?

What would you watch ?

The ashes between England and Australia ?

or the battle between T20 finalists Pakistan and Sri Lanka who played out a boring test series last time they met (ignore Lahore attacks and Tests).

How would Pakistan switch to Tests mode after T20 triumph and hoopla ?

Its an irony that Pakistan hold dominance over Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka hold dominance over Pakistan in Pakistan in Tests. Amazing. It would also be keen to watch how Malinga scales up to the Tests after IPL and WT20.

The rankings wont change. The top 3 Test teams wont change. But will SL and Pak change their mode of playing Tests (long boring batting draws)?

Adios Vaughan

Michael Vaughan would be remembered for following :
  1. Being the 1st English captain in ages to have looked good to win Ashes in 2005 and to form a team which looked best English team of many many decades from 2003-06.
  2. His silken form with the bat in 2002-03 against India and Australia -- two of best test playing teams.
  3. He formed careers of many Englishmen today like Harmison, Fred, KP, Strauss, Geraint Jones, Simon Jones, Hoggie and Bell.
  4. He did a Ganguly to England, he removed the inferiority complex of English teams after mediocre 90s famous for sudden comic collapses. English teams went to similar mould after he got injured in 2006 and never recovered the silken touch in batting and captaincy since 2007 India series.

His innings of 124 in Nottingham against India before he played on Zaheer Khan was his last innings of substance in Tests.

He would surely be clubbed amongst the best English captains of all times and one of the best captains of this decade along side Steve Waugh, Saurav Ganguly, Stephen Fleming and to an extent Ricky Ponting.

Time for players with attitude and temparament to don India colors

A look at the performance of the Indian team in past 2 years in ODIs throws following star performers :
  1. Virender Sehwag
  2. Gautam Gambhir
  3. MS Dhoni
  4. Zaheer Khan
  5. Yuvraj Singh

in addition to some decent performers like :

  1. Praveen Kumar
  2. Harbhajan Singh
  3. Suresh Raina
  4. Ishant Sharma
  5. Pragyan Ojha (though just 9 ODIs old)

indicates that the mission youngistan launched in 2008 CB series hasnt quite worked out as per the expectations. The core players who perform have remained the same all through out the 2000s. The ones who made their debut and mark under Sourav and Rahul. The top scorers in last 2 year bull run in ODIs starting Pakistan series home are same who have been the top performers in 2003 world cup and then in subsequent years.

Dravid was dumped after just one poor series in India vs Australia and more for his age. But the fact remains that India has found no good batsman than him in the conditions prevalent in WI series 2nd ODI. When the ball swings, there are no better batsman than Sachin and Rahul at the crease. I dont know if Rahul would ever play a ODI in his remaining career, but he is way better than the likes of Sharma, Raina and Karthik including Y Pathan even at 36.

The core batting group for India remains Sehwag, Gambhir, Tendulkar (choosy in ODIs), Yuvraj, Dhoni even today which was no different than the Sourav era or even Dravid era. So what different has Mr Vengsarkar led selection panel achieved ? Threw caps at will to some undeserving players like Sharma and Y Pathan who has more ducks than 50s in his career so far. Vengsarkar was instrumental in rise of Tendulkar 22 years back, but he failed in the vision to bring similar players or half the 10% of talent of Tendulkar to the forefront. The replacements of injured players are those who cannot be relied to be long term players in ODIs.

You cannot expect the likes of Badri, Karthik or Sharma to play for India for even 2-3 years with their temparament. Screw quota allegations or being hater of TN charges on me, the field performances suggest that the likes of Raina, Sharma and Pathan -- the 3 next big things predicted in 2007 have failed. The mission 2011 has lost its direction a bit for now.

The bowlers look even more concerning. Barring Zaheer Khan and occasionally Praveen Kumar on swinging wickets, there are no express bowlers of caliber of even a Umar Gul who supposedly thinks reverse swing is an art gifted by GOD or even Bret Lee or Albie Morkel. Spin bowling is in tatters. Harbhajan is a bowler who likes more to contain than strike. Ojha is relatively new to the field, but its difficult for him to pip Harbhajan and find a consistent place in the team XI.

There is a question of intent on the so called young gifted players in the side. Are they motivated enough to play for the country? Why is it they shine in IPL, but fail to make any impact in ODIs or not considered worthy enough to replace a Dravid or a Tendulkar in the Tests. Laxman would be the last one to go of the Fab Five in Tests, but with whom he would rally along when Sachin and Rahul are gone ?

It took a while for Ganguly, Dravid and Kumble to make a mark in the ODIs. Tendulkar made his 1st 100 in 6 years but then a Indian 100 in ODIs was a rare phenomenon. It was hard to believe then that it was Siddhu who hold the record for most 100s in ODIs. If they took some time, but then there was never a question mark on their intent and competency. More over their attitude. It never struck to the viewers then that this players wont be the ones they turned out to be.

We dont even see the spin bowling today to be as reliable as it was when Kumble was in his peak in ODis. It was Azhar who used to throw the ball to Kumble in first 15 overs and he used to strike back immediately. Now is there anybody who has the attitude of Kumble, let go his skills. His attitude was even evident in IPL - 2 final which was inconsequential by every means. Not only he did lead by front, but delivered with the ball too. I bet if you can expect that today from his partner and so called lead of bowling.

A number 8 team in ODis beats the best ODI team of last 2 years with 100 balls to spare and 8 wkts in hand. Thats ridiculous to say the least. And picture turns even more pessimistic to see the way the likes of first 3 and then the next 3 after 4 and 5 went. If the likes of RP singh can last for 75 balls, then why not Mr Sharma or Mr Pathan ? Or for that matter Mr IPL Dancer ?

Its time to look for new players for the slots of Rohit Sharma and Yusuf Pathan. May be Pathan can be a good bet in WC'11 in home conditions, but he would certainly be a cropper in abroad. Its time to look for players who are hungry to make their mark in the international cricket, not necessarily the best of talented players but the ones who are ready to put their best and even beyond that for the country, not just IPL or domestic cricket.

I rest my case.

Fear

The day Dravid and Tendulkar retire, Indian cricket wont be the same. Evident from how so called young guns have performed.

June 28, 2009

Fake batsmen in Indian ODI team

Lol.

Typical DK stuff.

A bit of nudge here and there.

Few runs in the belt.

And then a poke at the ball outside off stump.

Dismissed.

The dude wards off to the pavillion shaking his head as if he was planning smthin great and got out accidentally.

Fake dancer cum wicketkeeper.

And what about that asshole Rohit Sharma ? Any more proof needed he is a waste to be dumped in dustbin ? I dont have words more to mention on this 2 useless people who are in the team just cos they are young and they hail from states which have had chief selectors.

Dhoni should now awake and realise that he is carrying an useless piece of dirt in the team who dazzles in club cricket, glows up in ads n fashion shows and fails at highest level. Pissing rat!!

Michael Vaughan to retire per cricinfo ?

Having lost out on a place in the pre-Ashes squad, Michael Vaughan is expected to announce his retirement from international cricket next week, according to reports in the English media. In January, Vaughan withdrew from the IPL auction to concentrate on getting back into the Test side in time for the Ashes.

Vaughan, 34, who led England to regain the Ashes in 2005, has made only 159 runs at 19.88 for Yorkshire this season. He hasn't played international cricket since stepping down from captaincy during the home series against South Africa last year. The last time he scored a century in a competitive match was for Yorkshire in a 50-over game against Surrey in
Abu Dhabi this March. He has also struggled with injuries to his knee which had kept him out of cricket for over a year between November 2005 and May 2007.

DK to replace Beeru ?

I hope now with Dk scoring 67 in 1st ODI, nobody would say he would replace Sehwag in ODIs as opener. He tried doing it in Tests for a while, got thrown out. Mr Useless did it in T20s for a while but was found wanting against good teams in Super Eights.

Raj and Prabu(h missing) would be happier men for a while.

Not quite endemic for India

"If swine flu is a pandemic, this [the trouble with the bouncer] is becoming an endemic for India. "

Fazeer Mohammed uses an interesting analogy during commentary to explain India's travails Jun 26, 2009

Not quite true for any Indian except Mr Useless. Mr Useless as in Fake Mumbaikar Rohit Sharma.

Reason behind WI series

Those who say the ongoing India - WI series is useless and uncalled for, let me just state here for the record that this series is in response to the WI series prior to the world cup 2007 in India. This is a return series and was under "agreement" between BCCI and WICB.

4 ODIs then, 4 ODIs now. Before world cup then, after world cup now.

And yes that series was last time BC Lara played official international cricket last time in India. Its a pity that he didnt play a Test in India after 1994. Blame it on the scare tours WI make to India. 1983, 1988, 1994, 2002. 4 times in my life time.

Yuvraj

Yuvraj you beauty.....Show the bat to the media, show it to your critics. He is on roll.....

Chak de Phatte !!!

Fuckin Rohit Sharma!!

Why the fuck on earth Rohit Sharma is retained in the team? Asshole. Enough is enough now. He cannot be tolerated any more on name of so called talent. Fuckin bastard....

Why did Younis Khan retire ?

Ijaz Butt pukes this :

"There is no need to appoint a new captain for T20 cricket, this job will also be done by Younis. I am confident I can get him around and he will lead the side in all forms of the game,"

Younis Khan reconfirms :

"I didn't take a hasty decision I thought about it and I think I have done the right thing."

So who is right ? Butt or Younis ?

Are we supposed to take this seriously ? Can this world cup win change some things in Pakistan cricket ? And Younis Khan isnt that old not to play T20 cricket. He says he is 34 (read in some media) and cricinfo profile suggests he is not even 32. When Murali can play in 36, then Younis is too junior than Murali to retire :).

So age is not an issue for Younis retirement and neither is his batting form.
Figures suggest the same thing.

Its just his plain disinterest in the format which is keeping him away from the T20 format. His step to terminate IPL contract last year also suggests that he is more of a ODI or Test man. Welcome signs though. He is doing the other way around. At least for now. But then didnt Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Shahid Afridi,Abdul Razzaq, MoYo and others retire and returned back ?

And does Pakistan need Shoaib Akhtar anymore now ? Or for that matter Mohd Asif anymore ?

Starting Xi : India vs WI

My XI for 1st ODI against West Indies tomorrow :

Openers : Gambhir and Vijay

They have never played together in any format. Vijay was replacement for Gauti when latter was banned against Australia in the test series. Providing a good start would be key for Gambhir and Vijay. More onus woud be on Gambhir as senior partner. Replacing Sehwag is not a mean task you see. Now its upto you to decide Vijay is replacement for Sehwag or Tendulkar. Replacing Tendulkar ....

Middle Order :

Dhoni, Yuvraj, Sharma, Pathan, Jadeja
Dhoni is a natural # 3 here in absence of Raina. Yuvraj at 4, Mr Useless at 5 and Pathan at 6. Jadeja at 7. No KKD and no Badri bhaiya.

Bowlers :

RP, Nehra, Harbhajan and Ojha/ Ishant.

Actually opening with Yusuf wont be a bad idea. Take Windies with surprise. i dont quite support the idea of fixed batting order. It has helped us in ODIs in NZ and SL, so why discontinue with it now. It worked for us 7 out of 10 times. So why change just for one failure in England.

Last 9 ODIs India have won 4 and lost 5. To cut down even more, out of last 4 India has won 3 and lost 1. Prior to 2007 world cup. Painful memories.

"attitude of the Indian players "

I was a bit disappointed," Afridi told Pakistan's Geo TV. "It didn't appear to me by the attitude of the Indian players that they wanted to play against us. On the face, they said they would like to see cricket between the two countries but I think in their hearts they thought otherwise. Their attitude and behavior while playing against us showed this."

Oh really Shahid ? I thought Your team was royally thumped by Indians in a warm up game. 8 wkts is a huge margin. World champs then beat to-be world champs. Gee. Indians really didn’t want to play you? What makes you feel so? The collections of the match of the tournament went to Lahore victims. And this game saw the best possible crowd in the tournament. I find this statement really absurd and typical you showing off your arrogance as on the field when barring the semis and finals of world t20, you try and whack every ball out of the park and then meekly get out. No wonder you earn more critics than supporters dude. I hoped some sensible statement from the architect of the T20 World champion team and in return I find this totally insane and absurd statement. In fact 2nd in row after your infamous jibe at VVS after IPL last year. Your point that VVS isn’t a T20 player might have some merit in it, but the fact remains that he is a part of winning IPL team and you were not.

How come guys like you think you can have both sides of a coin? Your board, your cricketers want Indian board and teams to bail your cricket out of the mess it finds itself in (nomadic existence and stuff) and then you guys have to make such insane and uncalled statements. After Javed Miandad and Ijaz Butt, you are the third one in this category of anti-India brigade. Its simple and clear : if you expect Indian thing to help you out, just stop making this ridiculous statements.

Indian media welcomes Pakistan Victory

Much contrary to the Pak media where everything Indian is a bogey and taboo, Indian media has welcomed the victory of Pakistan in the T20 world cup. The theme for Pakistan victory is Chak De Pakistan.

Welcome gesture from otherwise insane Indian media. May be one of the reason Indian media is gaga over Pakistan victory is the sudden loss of Indians in the World T20, else before the loss everything related to Indian cricket was golden goose. Now its a Pakistani golden goose. Not that I am complaining.

Preserve Champions Trophy

Champions Trophy in ODIs should be preserved cos in my opinion its the only tourney that tests the strength and might of the 8 best ODI teams. Inclusion of minnows and qualifiers in World Cup have made the world cup games a bit boring and one sided. 2007 world cup is one prime example.

Change of guard in BD

Asharful gives way to Mashrafe Mourtza to concentrate on his batting. Mourtaza is their best bowler. So would he also give in captaincy to concentrate on bowling. Best bet for BD is to have a non playing captain.

Where Sri Lanka erred and the return of ODIs

King Sanga erred in 18th over when he gave ball to Isuru Udana, the foot soldier who lost it for SL. Till that time Murali and Malinga had 1 over each left to ball. Had Murali or Malinga given the ball, there would have been a bit more pressure on Pakistan. 26 off 18 balls. And then it read 8 off 12 balls after Udana's over.

Besides over reliance on Dilshan proved costly. Blabba king failed. Simple dolly to Younis. Talking high is different and implementing those high things is different. Besides Matthews and Sanga the batting let down the Lankans and yesterday mystery of Mendis went off for a vacation.

Mendis isnt proving effective against teams who have played him more often. India and Pakistan are examples.

All in all it was another false dawn for SL as they had an unbeaten streak throughout and got punctured in the final when it mattered the most.

With this final, the T20 overdose ends and we now switch to ODI cricket starting in West Indies where Indians script their comeback. And then the talk of the season -- Ashes. England declare their pre-Ashes squad today. It would also be a d-day for Michael Vaughan.

By the way this Indian team has broken the jinxes associated with it everywhere it has gone. It beat Pakistan in India first time in a home series in 2007, won CB series in Australia first time, won back to back ODI series in SL and then 33 year draught in New Zealand. West Indies has some painful memories for India. 1-4 defeat in 2006 followed by ODI World cup loss. Besides India has won just 1 of the 5 bilateral ODI series in Carribean. So this is another chance for Indians to set the record right and return back to winning ways before embarking on a well deserved break.

Younis Khan confuses me

Has Younis Khan retired from T20 WWF or has he also quit Pakistan captaincy in all 3 formats? Guide me as media reports confuse me. And is this retirement permanent or is it going to be rolled back ?

Pakistan wins

Expect more cynicism and more blackmail from PCB on world cup 2011 hosting rights now that their team has won the world T20. More jingoism, more idiotism and more foolish statements from their establishment on Pakistan would be the moral host nation for WC 11. Will this T20 win make Pakistan a safe country? Perhaps a logical person would say no, but logic and PCB go extremes.

Meanwhile Kudos to Younis Khan and army to have won this WWF's que fun cricket. So we shouldnt be taking this win seriously right Younis mia ?

And my blog is first one to blog on Pakistan victory.

Pakistan need 140 to win

139 would be too good score for Pakistan to chase. Murali, Mendis, Malinga and Matthews along with Misbah.

lol.

Pakistan would remember the greatest choking act in their history in 2007 WT20 final when Misbah gifted us the WT20. Who is going to do that role today?

May be Pak let the game slip once they got 6 wkts. And Umar Gul was sorted out today along with Ajmal. All pre-final heroics aside and final aside. 130s cud be a bogey for Pakistan. 10 yrs ago they could set 133 run target for Aussies and today they chase 6 runs more.

A cracker of chase in cards.....Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik would be the key.

Ranatunga jibes.

http://www.cricinfo.com/india/content/story/409750.html

Perhaps IPL gave a good chance to Dilshan and Malinga to prove their worth as T20 players and their utility to SL in WT20 is evident to one and all. Perhaps Ranatunga watches it with different eyes. He forgets that the captain and ex-captain of SL along with SJ fought hard for Lankans playing in IPL and the effect is evident in the campaign of SL this WT20. Contrast that with the lone T20 SL played before WT20 against India and compare form of Dilshan then and now. The IPL would make hell lot of difference.

Again, I would be curious to know Ranatungs's views on T20 if SL wins today. Will it be still Maggie noodles for him or a full fledged main course?

Some lads like Ranatunga, Miandad and Imran Khan just want to gain some limelight and IPL gives them easy way to do so. Jokers!!

Butt'ism continues

PCB's idiotic ways continue. They know they aint going to get World Cup games anyways, so hinder the smooth transition of their 14 games to other hosts. Thats what is expected out of PCB and Butt. Next statement soon would be how BCCI and India (their fav bogey) is behind all this fracas.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) says it will continue its legal battle against the ICC on the issue of hosting the 2011 World Cup after high-level talks at Lord's today proved inconclusive.

The four host nations of the 2011 World Cup met for the second day on Saturday following the PCB's threat of legal action after Pakistan was stripped of hosting rights due to the security situation in the country. There was no statement from the ICC but the PCB said it was disappointed at the results of the meeting. The matter will now be discussed at the ICC's annual board meeting next week.

Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, said he was disappointed those organisational issues surrounding the World Cup remained unresolved and added that the legal proceedings the PCB has brought against the ICC would continue. "I had hoped and expected the support of my Asian co-hosts in resolving these organizational difficulties," he said. "I am deeply disappointed that no progress was made despite the intervention of both the ICC president (David Morgan) and vice-president (Sharad Pawar).

"This means that rather than harmony amongst the co-hosts of the 2011 World Cup we will have disagreement and legal dispute. I do hope that they will reconsider their unreasonable stance so that the legal dispute can be resolved and a hugely successful World Cup organized in 2011."

The ICC reiterated last week that Pakistan would not host matches in the 2011 tournament because of the security situation in the country but the PCB would be recognised as hosts and retain fees from its original allocation of 14 matches. ICC president David Morgan had said the ICC would consider
outsourcing Pakistan's matches to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, though co-hosts India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were keen to have the matches remain in the subcontinent.

Which was better ? 1992 or 2009 ?

http://www.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/current/story/409883.html

No, no thats not right. Class of 2009 cannot be linked to the grand daddies of 1992. May be for all #1 to #11s there could be an encore or even worthier kids in 2009 class than 1992 daddies, yet they dont have anybody who comes around 10% of what one man who had 2 in 2 had.

"Pakistan matters because no team could have pulled off what they have just pulled off and in the manner they did. Their march has not been just a great cricketing tale or a fine sporting one; it is a simpler, more important one of how men do things sometimes nobody expects them to, of how from any darkness light can emerge. Even if we're not sure how the tale was written, how long it will go on and when, or whether, it will happen again, we must celebrate it, be grateful for it and not forget it. "

War n all thats fine. Despair and light now at the end of tunnel analogy is fine. But if you attribute this journey to the final as great cricketing tale, then I very much doubt the knowledge of history of the author of the above article. Not taking away anything, the only worthy opponents pakistan have beaten up in this tournament is SA. They didnt get a chance to play against Australia or India. They lost horribly to England and Sri Lanka.

If anything was great cricketing tale, then it was in 1992 for Pakistan, 1999 for Australia and 2003 for India in 50F world cup. Written off. Beaten mightier teams consistently. And with ease. Perhaps thats greater cricketing tale than this one. 2007 journey was way better than this one. When they beat SL, Australia, NZ enroute to the finals only to lose to their bogey nation India.

Pakistan win would do hell of good to their country and their cricketers, but it wont change the realities and the biggest question right now :"Future of Pakistan cricket in Pakistan". May be they can sing the Guru song "Kuch der hume sone do" (read kuch der hame jashn manane do). But then they would need to answer this question bit too soon cos the World Cup 2011 isnt that far.

Questions for Pakistan and Sri Lanka

Pakistan or SL tomorrow would win the WT20 and become second Asian team to win a WC in England. Thats after India in 1983. So may be it was a community act by India who crashed out early to allow its neighbours have the pie of the cake called T20, so now are we seeing a PPL or SLPL next year ownwards ?

I just hope there would be cricketing logic and reasons for any team to win the WT20. No emotional bullying should be done. Whosoever will win, will do it on the basis of its cricketing skills and tactics. Dedicating the trophy to somebody or some event is fine, but saying we were deserved winners cos we didnt play cricket for X years or months would be aghast. Subcontinental teams have this tendency to over hype the things.

Two years back India won the inaugral WT20 and entire nation rejoiced cos it had seen the despairity of the WC2007. They wanted a victory and they got it. Since then to now, Indians hardly did anything wrong. And this wrong step and Indian players were again put on a pedestal by inept media and even inept ex-cricketers. If India would have retained the title, nobody would have gone ahead and attributed the victory to 11/26. Though Sachin did that for the Chennai win., that was wrong imo.

No amount of cricket win can compensate for the tragedy of such a huge intensity like LTTE war or 11/26 or the so called war agains terror in Pakistan.

I would also be keen to watch the reactions of Younis Khan, Imran Khan and Javed Miandad if Pakistan wins T20. Would Younis continue to say T20 is fun and WWF cricket ? Would Javed and his rival Imran Khan continue to write off T20 ? And what joking statement would Ijaz Butt give? And what happens to PCB administration which i hope wont turn square and would turn effecient? What happens to Pakistan cricket? Will it continue to perform good one day, best the other and ridiculous the next ? How would they perform in Sri Lanka series and the CT series ? Will they be a force in ODIs and Tests which would matter in the long picture ? They are langering in the bottom of this two old formats.

How will they take the WC11 hosting issue ? Will the possible win force Butt to go and give even stupid statements in the media and make a further joke of himself and PCB?

For SL, it would remain how they would turn around their poor ODI record after their possible triumph. How long would Jaisurya continue to play? take him out and SL opening remains a poor cog for the team. None of the openers tried have succeeded untill Sanga or Dilshan opened. But then is it long term solution? Similar to what India did with Mr Useless. SL bowling evokes massive orgasm from cricketing viewers, but what about batting. Except Dilshan, Mahela, Sanga and Jaya their batting looks brittle. They havent really exploded and went beyond 160 in any of the games after league game against WI.

Whosoever wins, would be good for the cricket in their country. But the intensity of 2007 would forever be missing in this tourney just cos the BLUES and the YELLOWS have lost. As in India and Australia. These 2 teams remain the top teams of the international cricket in terms of quality, entertainment and skills. Yeah yeah call me names but then i havent reeled anybody. People have choices. Homer has anything Indian, anything mumbaian his choice. Damith has SL as his choice, Q has Pakistan as his choice, Raj has Tamil Nadu and CSK as his choice. And me the devil blogger has India and Australia as his choices. So when everybody has his own choice and they stand by their choices, why just single me for criticism.

SL favorites for final

Srilanka Vs Pakistan in the final is expected to be an one - sided affair. Either side's victory would give the country chance to rejoice as both are facing the war situation. Just that one is almost out of it, the second one is fighting it.

For Sri Lanka, their batting is a concern. Yesterday Dilshan and Jaya accounted for 120 of the 158 runs. Bowling remains sparkling, but if Pakistan win the toss and do an encore of their semi-final then on this brittle batting, Lankans would find themselves on rough patch. But then SL have 4 Ms now where as Pakistan have 1 MA and I UG in addition to free for all 1 SA.

The other good thing is the new champion would get to keep the trophy only for 10 months as the next World T20 would duly return to its original and deserved champions.

June 19, 2009

Lankans favorite

Sri Lanka are hot red sexy favorites for today's semi-final. Yeah all for 3 Ms, Jayasurya, neutral's romantic favorites and embattled, emotional reasons. Very well. Go Lanka conquer the Carribeans!!!

June 18, 2009

KKR sack Buchanan.

End of Buchanan. End of management in cricket. May be next year it would be plain cricketing stuff. Simple tactics. Bat vs ball. Mind vs Mind.

Perhaps relief for Buch too, India or anything Indian is never good for him. He never could win a series against India comprehensively as against other teams. He could never succeed in IPL.

End of agony for KKR. How much that translates to turnaround of its fortunes in IPL-3 if it survives would be interesting to watch.

Saffers favorites!!

Today it’s the first semi-final between South Africa and Pakistan. As per my memory suggests, the two teams haven’t clashed with each other in any major world cup since 1999. And till then its Saffers who edge past Pakistan easily. 1992, 1996 and 1999. So SA has a boogey over the Pakistanis. I don’t see that result being changed tonite. If Pakistan have Umar Gul, Saffers have Parnell and Steyn along with Albie Morkel. If Pakistan have Ajmal then Saffers have Botha, Duminy and VanDeMerve. If Pakistan have Spinach Razzaq, Saffers have Jacques Kallis who turned around his T20 fortunes, thanks IPL 2. Graeme Smith, Gibbs, AB, Kallis, Duminy certainly sound heavier than Butt / new kid, Younis, Afridi , Akamal, Misbah. But then this is Pakistan for you. Let me say this is not 1992 for them. The quality of that team isn’t just there in this team. Imran, Inzy, Wasim and Mushtaq were a class apart. Not to forget the Six-man Javed Miandad.

Saffers have had a great season this and a T20 world champs win would just ensure them a great capping off. Isnt it? Pakistan haven’t actually done anything great to suggest that they deserve to win this trophy this time except beating Ireland (their 2007 bogey), Netherlands and moaning Kiwis. Contrast that to SA who have now beaten Scotland, New Zealand, England, West Indies and outgoing champions India. Blame it to the format of the tournament or whatever, if Pakistan go through to the finals, they wont be the deserving champs. Though it would do a hell lot of good to the embattled country lacking the cricket and something good to cheer them up. But then do they have the ability to stop the Saffers on roll ?

June 17, 2009

Happy thee life.

The day after Kris Srikanth declared the team for ODI series in WI, Raj down there in Middle Easy location woke up and walked up to the mirror and in Anthony ishtyle of Amitabh Bachchan, the Indian legend of acting and said "Khush to bahut honge tum hain. 3-3 players TN se. Doodhy Dhoni ki bhi waat lag gayi. T20 har gaye. Mind ittttttttttttt... (Dont worry MS has this ad, not me)

He was a very happpy man. Doodhy Dhoni had failed and reeled in the media, a trend which he started and was carried forward. May be he would be very distraught in the end of WI tour to see none of the players -- Badri or DK succeeded. Badri and DK still remain what i call ......selection.

Selectors err it.

Injury backup players are back in the ODI team. Thats other question what worth while did badrinath do to get in ? Vijay did fairly OK in the Tests, so he is a natural choice to be in the openers' slot in absence of Sehwag. Rohit Sharma thankfully wont open in ODIs. Yeah a guy with an average of 26 and strike rate of 70 isnt a good opener in ODIs.

Nayar is another just for a tour selection. He is one guy who chokes at big stage like Raina. IPL proved it.

Ashish Nehra is rightly back.

The core players should have been rested. And it would have been apt that the IPL successful stars should have been sent with Badrinath as non-playing captain. The flared egos would have been softened.
Not a wise selection.

Misclleanous!!

We never termed India as favorites for T20 record owing to its record in T20 format post 2007. The only reason India were titled favorites was that they were defending champs. Just like Australia is a default contender for every ODI world cup. It’s a different thing that Australia live up to the bill, India did not. But then T20 is hardly a format to be taken too too seriously. Sour grapes.

India is in red hot form in ODI since 2008. They have won everything. CB series, SL ODI series, NZ series, Eng series. Big thing. SA comes close in that record. Won in all conditions with Australia and SL being the toughest. Only one series triumph at home. The point here I drive is India are strong contenders for the ODI trophies not withstanding its T20 record. Australia aren’t the same team anymore in ODIs. Pakistan play almost no cricket and when they play they are extremes. So beating them isn’t a big news this days for India. SL are on slide in the ODIs. But they cannot be discounted just cos they have Sanath and 3 Ms. West Indies, England and Kiwis would always be bridesmaid. The only strong consistent teams based on the current record in oDIs are India and South Africa who now have 8-2 record over Australia in recent times.

The next big thing is CT 2009 in South Africa. Something which would test India’s roadmap to 2011 which began in 2008 with the axing of Rahul and Sourav from the ODIs. I still doubt if Rahul is really not worth ODIs. Given the displays from the so called talented Rainas and Sharmas, Rahul would give complex to any youngster with his adaptability and consistency. It would depend on performance in CT to guess how good India is to win its 2nd title in 28 years – the CUP of LIFE that matters. Good thing about it is, the cup is being played in India and India have never lost before semi-final in home world cups, but then they have never won any semi-final in Indian world cups. So don’t host the world cup semi final in India in either of Eden Gardens and Wankhede.

Yes I know its over rating India right now, but then few days later there would be very little posts on Indian cricket in this blog as the rest season would beckon and Aussies would thump Poms in the Ashes, so that’s going to be the focus then.

My predictions : Australia 3, England 1.

!!

This certainly is not a display of character and pride. This is just insipid and in plain words. Ridiculous. 0/46 in 6 to 5/70 in 14. 24 runs in 6 overs with all wkts to spinners. Are we watching Indians ? Or any minnow team?

I am damn sure Raina and Rohit -- the fake opener are going to have tough times in retaining their places for sure.

I am lack of words. May be media wins and the fans like us lose for this inept display.

May be i shouldnt have bothered or cared less.

Disgusting.

Dhakkan vs Dhakkan

Dhakkan gets a Dhakkan. RP gets his IPL team mate Gibbsie. Time for Zaks to get his bunny Smithie :)

Going overboard for MS

What an attitude. Acceptance of mistake, moving on from them with lessons learnt and not fretting over what happened. test of character, test of passion.....

MS struck the right chords. No blabbering, no false egos, no beating around the bush. Precisely thats what makes him the best man to lead India for next few years or even longer. He backs his team just like his mentor did. he is outspoken, puts up a smiling face not as sheepish as Younis, accepts that there is a problem with the results. But then this is just one odd failure.

And the great Anil Kumble endorses it. What else you expect out of a man who is under fire and has just lost few fans, but they are those whom nobody would care about.

Mr Doodh has just hit a right chord. And India go unchanged. So no Ojha and no Dancing Jodi star.....

Gear up for a rift between BCCI and Kirsten; Captain vs Coach -- II part.

http://cricket.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/t20articleshow/4660830.cms

Alright guys, media stoops to further low in India. After Viru vs MS, its now a turn of so called war between Gary and MS over IPL. And supposedly rift between Gary and BCCI too. Another instance of smoke when there is no fire.

Times of India can stoop to such a low to boost its whatever. One hand you have TOI in print, then you have its e-brother Times Now where Arnab Goswami would even stubbornly argue with his point of view to be subscribed. Doesnt mattter if it sounds rude or ugly. But then media in India has always been rude and YIUY!)(&!)(*(*.

Mendis and SL's entry to semis

Mendis is now having success against teams which havent played him before. Like Australia, New Zealend (3rd wkt now) or England (a hot favorite for 10-for). But teams who have repeatedly played him have figured him out. Dont agree ? Ask any Indian or a Pakistani :). They would agree here.

Success of Mendis would lie in a fact that how long will he continue to bamboozle the batsmen with his innovative bowling skills. This is certainly not an anti-Mendis or anti-SL post. ;). Just that it is an observation for Mendis. And moreso his talent would be judged when he tours India or Australia and South Africa, the 3 hottest Test playing nations. Alright i would add England too.

Sri Lanka dont tour West Indies that often. It seems end of Kiwi run in WT20. An encore of 2003. Just that there are 3 different semi-finalists now. Leave aside SL. Pakistan replace India, West Indies replace Australia and SA replace Kenya. Encore cos NZ failed then to make it to the semis.

End of last hope for Kiwis. The side embattling with injuries. 3 of the possible semi-finalists are now out of the WT20 and 3 most unlikely teams -- Pakistan, Sri Lanka and West Indies have made to the semis.

As of the last Super 8 is concerned, its final that India is winning the game.

Fancying Kiwis and India

Kiwis love blue. They have a boogie over blues. Indian blues. Let the Kiwis see Indians in Srilankans, for they also wear blue. They also have yellow patch on their dress. That is something Australian. So Kiwis have enough motivation and reason to go beat SL and go to Semis, their most obvious place in ICC tourneys (except 2003, they have gone in Semis of every world cup).....

McCullum was skipper of Mendis in KKR days and he didnt play much, so who is gonna take revenge? As of now blabba king and Sanga having a ball in the middle. I bet my money on Kiwis. And on battered and bruised Indians in the game later today. But in the longer run, I fancy Saffers to unchoke and win the tourney to cap off an excellent season for them. Choke today, not later. Lose today, win later.

as for Indians, win today and win always to slap the critics and the ass media back home. Heal your bruised ego by thumping the to be champions and make Micky repent on his comments that we are team of individuals who play for ourselves. Just do it guys. Sensible Indians are with you.

Defence of MS

There is an excellent post by Achettup on his blog on the media getting ridiculously hyper over not so big deal of India’s ouster from the T20 world cup. Here it is. Then we have Times Now and CNN-IBN going madly behind India’s decision to field first in the game against England. A lady reporter / fashion model / cricket expert constantly bantered about how wrong the decision to field first was. Then we have Bishen Singh Bedi claiming that Dhoni’s cricketing acumen is poor cos he hails from Ranchi and that his thinking is street level. Nonsense.

Then there are self proclaimed anti India bloggers who find sadistic pleasure in everything bad happening to India, be it the 26/11 or the WT20 loss.

Then there are some really derogatory comments like Mr. 3 liters Doodh a day for MS by one of his famed critics. What about the Dancer in the reality show sir? Is he good enough to pip Doodh drinker from his spot ? I would really wish to watch out this folks what they say when India gets next success – be it in CT or be it in WI tour or whatsoever tourney. Being MS is so tough this days. It doesn’t matter if you have won everything you captained, it doesn’t matter you won a test series against 2 of the most dangerous oppositions without losing even a single test. Doesn’t matter if you won 2 on the trot ODI series in Emerald Isle, which no other captain of India was able to do. Doesn’t matter if you won a ODI series and a Test series down under in NZ in 33 years. Doesn’t matter if you won the CB series for the first and final time in history. And doesn’t matter if you won the WT20 – 2007. The fact that he lost WT20 crown and the IPL – II, he is in for a serious hit. Brand Dhoni, honeymoon Dhoni, lucky Dhoni, Doodh peeta Dhoni. What not.

Former Test stars are blaming Gary on his hinting to IPL as one of the reason for fatigue that finally led to the loss. That’s on cricketnext.com.

IBN cricket “Expert” has following analysis :

The decision to bat Suresh Raina at number three in the batting line-up despite his obvious weakness against the short ball was also hard to understand. With the asking rate (required run rate) not too stiff, could the skipper have given himself the role of seeing the initial England burn out and kept Raina in the dugout for an assault on the spinners?”

Not so long ago MS was reeled for coming at 3. So there is a problem. MS comes at 3. Criticise. Raina at 3. Criticise. Whats MS supposed to do? Bat Nishant Arora or any journo there. I doubt if the journo would even know the rules of the game.

Yes Jadeja at 4 was a mistake. Accepted.

Then there is this generalized article from PTI on what went wrong :

http://cricket.ndtv.com/cricket/ndtvcricket/WT20/storypage.aspx?ID=SPOEN20090097586

Matches at home, the below-par attack of New Zealand and fine performances on the worn-out pitches of South Africa during the Indian Premier League (IPL) camouflaged the young Indian batsmen weaknesses against quality pace attack of West Indies and England, who were prepared to dig it short.”

Since when England and West Indies had a quality pace attack? If they had they wouldn’t be at 7 and 8 positions in the ODI cricket and at 5th and 8th position in Test cricket. One off victories for both the teams don’t make them have a quality pace attack. Matches at home? Does that mean India should not play matches at home?

“Individually, captain Dhoni's admission that he can't hit sixes as of yore is welcomed, but his assertion that he is working on it isn't true as the team hardly practices. The jibe at media for making an issue out of the team's absence from practice sessions is misguided.”

Didn’t media create an issue out of the supposed rift between MS and VS ? Is media’s role glorified here? When the journos who never would have stepped on the cricket field rig the Indian cricketers, they assume they are the rulers of the game and have the audacity to pass the verdict on the topics they hardly know of.

And on one hand the lesser ex stars of Indian cricket – Patil, Borde and Rajput are reeling MS, the legends of the cricket in country who actually made it the way it is today have backed up MS. None other than Sunny Gavaskar. He has backed the skipper. There is nobody better than MS to lead India in any form of the game. And if there are polls and discussions on whether MS should resign on any tv channel or newspaper, then its just simply ridiculous. MS has accepted his fault, he has apologized. What else he needs to do? We need to move on from this defeat of course with lessons learnt. And the first lesson is that the T20 defeat shouldn’t be taken seriously. Something Younis Khan suggests.

Entire media circle has gone haywire on this loss. And till the next success this topic would be red hot and even small moves by the team would be monitored and aired as Breaking News. And not to wonder if some more derogatory synonyms pop up for MS. Yeah somebody sitting in Al Manamah, Middle East is so good at doing it.

Flexibility!!!

Flexibility killed India s chances in World Cup 2007. Flexibility killed chances again in World T20 2009.

BTW Welcome Raj, if you do comment, i expect it to be fiery one. Go on mate. World is your oyster and MS is your whipping victim. His CSK failures infected to the national team too. Whatta waste.

BTW flexibility should now be rest except one case Gambhir at 3 when Sachin Tendulkar plays oDIS. Else Raina at 3. And yes no Rohit Sharma. Sachin or no Sachin. Apt time for Pujara to be in or any other young gun.

Why India lost -- II and the road ahead.

The T20 world cup failure is just not a big deal. Not as big as ODI world cup 2007. We would lose the title in a week’s time. But thanks to ICC scheduling we have a chance to regain it in March 2010 again. So the new champions keep the world title only for 9 months. Whats the use? This is first failure for MS and it should be just about ok. True his few decisions didn’t work. But then this has always been his style. More often than not they have fired and that’s why he was a darling of the media and public. Now one world cup loss and he is termed as no more cool. Namakewl. Yes he did mistake in promoting Jadeja over Yuvraj and himself, in bowling out Ishant Sharma while Zaheer and RP, better bowlers than Ishant were under bowled. Jadeja was bowled one over more than required. Again the stage wasn’t set for experimentation. But then what can you do when you don’t have a Virender Sehwag in the team? The starts that win you matches in Tests, ODIs and T20s were missing. Make shift openers don’t always become Sehwag. And if they are IPL stars and India flops, then just forget it.

Indians were performing consistently below par their true potential. Not like their mercurial neighbors whom we don’t know which side they would be. Winners one or whiners one. Call it luck, they are still in the contention and we are out. We lost to 2 teams against whom we were never expected to lose. It was a collective slump. Batting, bowling, fielding. Just like Australia in 2009 World T20 or the Border Gavaskar trophy or the SA series. So why cry foul and focus on one man as reason for loss. If MS didn’t fire, then so did not Raina and Rohit Sharma who were IPL stars. Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan didn’t fire as they did in IPL. Yuvraj did his bit. Zaheer wasn’t consistent as he has been since England 2007. RP Singh wasn’t the same bowler we saw in IPL. So whats Dhoni ’s fault here? He tried his best to do the stuff he could do. But then every team has off days. So did India. Unfortunately at wrong time. If I have to axe somebody I would kick out Mr. IPL and Mr. Useless Rohit Sharma, Ishant Sharma and put Raina on the fringe. A notice service must be done to the people who take their places for granted. IPL success is fine, but they gotta play for country too and do it with responsibility. By no means today Sharma and Raina can be said as replacements for Tendulkar and Dravid in Tests. These lads don’t even have 10% of commitment the senior pros have. Tendulkar and Dravid made money, this lads are doing better than the senior pros. But then didn’t the senior pros deliver when it came to ? 2007 was an aberration. 2003 was peak for the trio of Indian batting.

This loss could be a minor setback for 2011 mission. Every player in the squad has little bit of experience in the international arena. Most of the lads have played cricket now for an average of 3 years. Dhoni has 5 years, Yuvraj, Zaheer have 9, Harbhajan has 11, Gambhir, I Pathan have 6, Raina has 3, Sharma bandhu have it for 2 years, RP has it for 4 years, DK has it for 5 years. So the experience going to the 2011 world cup would be there. How much the lads would perform remains a different story. We need to identify the backup for openers. Sachin Tendulkar won’t be forever playing ODIs. Sehwag ’s injury exposed us. Gambhir looked fatigue after an outstanding year in the international scene. Who after this 3? Who if one of the 2 gets injured ? Rohit Sharma? Joke. Manish Pandey ? Karan Goel ? May be. They need to be groomed. What if Rohit Sharma doesn’t deliver again in ODIs ? Who to replace him ? Manoj Tiwary was one of the man after 2007 debacle identified to replace one of the batting greats, but injury forced him out of reckoning. What about Cheteshwar Pujara? Doesn’t he need to be given a chance to prove before ODI world cup ? Or some successful IPL stars ? Just identify them and test them in the upcoming ODI series in WI and Zim (if it happens). Rest the key players, send a good A team to play oDIs. May be a comeback for Uthappa ?

This are few of the questions the think tank of Indian management along with 5 wise old men would need to do including Gary Kirsten. Later this year, his contract would come up for renewal (hopefully would be extended). The debacle might not be of huge impact as compared to 2007 World Cup, but still some glaring questions need to be asked of fading stars like Rohit and Ishant Sharma, Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina.

Why India lost

Defending champions are out. But then its just T20. And we aint alone. Aussies are out. Tomorrow Pakistan is going to join us. So elite company. Alright lets accept it. We didnt deserve to win. We just let lose too many runs on misfields and those cost us dear. We were not good enough to last the distance and win. We are not unpredictables. Either we play miserable or we play like champs. 2007 and 2009 world T20 just prove that. We aint mercurial. High on a day and low the other.

Let me reiterate this is not the end of world. And this is certainly not the repeat of 26 March 2007 when India crashed out of World Cup. Its just T20.. We would have chance next year in West Indies. And I dont hate MS for this. Some of us would do esp those who hail from Chennai. There are going to be brick bats against him from likes of Raj or company who are gonna criticise MS. But then we shud understand he is a human and prone to mistakes.

Some reasons from my end why we lost :

  1. Non stop cricket : India have been playing since Sri Lanka 2008 series. Tests, ODIs and then IPL. IPL was the final straw in the coffin. It saw a fatigued outfit play in the world t20. Injuries to key players like Viru and Zaks, false dawns for likes of Mr Useless, Suresh Raina and DK. Fresh ideas didnt come and even if they did they dint succeed.
  2. Media : Media in India is ass. They showed smoke when there was no fire. Virender Sehwag vs MS controversy was uncalled for. Even if Sehwag didnt inform team about the injury, i care two hoots. He is too good a player to be missing from a tournament like this even if its a T20.
  3. Missing Sehwag
  4. Slow batting : In super eights major hitters of the game played slow and low. Strike rates were similar to ODIs and thats why Indians lost. Gambhir, MS and Raina never clicked. if they did they were too slow.
  5. Poor fielding : You cannot expect tired cricketers to field well and today that cost us our title.
  6. Overconfidence in Mr Useless : Goddamn this is national team. This is not IPL. 2 or 3 good innings in IPL doesnt mean you are good to open for your country in a world series. And when you lack the temparament and you are overrated, this happens. 2 okish innings in warm-ups (Pakistan) and one 50 vs Ireland made people think Mr Useless is replacement for Sehwag. Mr Useless showed how fucked up he is when he got out cheap to freakish shots against stronger teams. Time to dump this man.
  7. Poor mid over bowling : Ishant Sharma could be a good Test bowler but he is not a good T20 bowler. And this is a fact. Blame it to KKR or blame it to his Test mode, the Delhi dude isnt a T20 material as of now.

Time to look beyond Rohit Sharma, Ishant Sharma and Irfan Pathan in T20. Rohit Sharma isnt a talented guy. Lets accept the fact. He could be a star of IPL, be a part of defending champs Deccan Chargers, but when he plays for India, he is an ass. Worst part is he doesnt learn from his mistakes. Doesnt matter if he plays for Mumbai or Madras or Melbourne, he doesnt perform, he doesnt get in.

MS is a natural victim for criticism. And people would be ridiculous in criticising him. They would blame him why was DK not played. May be media would reel him. "Luck and honeymoon" have ended for him. But still he remains the best man to lead India. I think IPL should have been shortened or scrapped. But then money power. Isnt it.

Next assignment for India is CT and India are in red hot ODI form. They should take a well deserved break now and get freshen up for the CT and the home Test series against SL followed by West Indies.

Its disappointing loss, but its not the end of road. Certainly its not 26/3/2007. Arm Ball would be alive and would continue to be behind Team India and its skipper MS. I now favor SA to go win the tourney. Semi finalists : SA, WI, Pak/NZ, SL.

England would anyway join Australia and India on Tuesday night. Time for madness in Indian media, Indian blogs (few) and few commentors.....

Reason why England should lose

It would be apt for England to crash out and join Australia for the Ashes preparations. Makes sense isnt it? England would certainly not like to give Australia a chance to edge ahead of them of crucial Ashes. T20 isnt anyway England's forte. So why bother to win and lose Ashes ?

India vs England LIVE

Its the toss time and very soon Dhoni and Collingwood would be on the pitch to do the toss. Remember the best option for India would be win the toss, bowl first and restrict feeble England to a low total. Win with a handsome net run rate. Dont leave it to the final game. Though Saffers are in full flow.

Toss comes in. And we are chasing. Yes. Way to go. Ojha and Irfan go out. Jadeja and RP come in. Good choices. India makes sensible choices. Spin + pace. England get in Ryan Sidebottom in and Adil Rashid, the spinner goes out..

Lord's is already blue with Indians and English supporters. Time for Anthems. Its proud to stand to Indian national anthem. Great to see likes of DK, Irfan, Zaheer, Yusuf sing along with the likes of Bhajji, MS, Gambhir and Yuvraj.

There. Diff between Indians and English supporters. Every Englishman sung national anthem despite camera focussed on them. And Indians. They jumped and waved when focus shifted to them even when Jan gan man was played.

Asoka Desilva is the one umpire along with Aussie Steve Davis. We all know how much DeSilva loves India. First ball. Swing off the off stump. Bopsie on strike. 2nd ball, played back.

Hussain says 160 is winning total. Not quite. Wide ball and good take by MS. First runs on the board for England. Good run. First runs off the bat. Virender Sehwag is a crucial man in Indian line up. He is the next batting great. He has to feature in every crucial game.

Not to forget Zaheer is playing against his favorite opposition England. 1st over gone. England 3/0.

RP next. 2 dot balls. Great ball. Wright shuffled too much. Leg slip for Wright. Sachin there. Sachinnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Chance for out. Catch out. India draw first blood. Yousuf gets it. Short ball. Wright goes for it. and India get the first wicket :)

KP comes in. Get in Yuvraj. Pie-chucker. Remember KP is injured. Bonding seems great between the team much in contrary to what ass media reports.

2 gone England 4 for 1. Typical English start. Bad ball, first boundary. 8 for 1 in 2.1 Bopara bats like Sachin ? :O. Hussein all right ? Zaheer pitching in leg side. Bad ball again. KP off the block with a boundary. Strike rate of 400. Mis fiekding. Poor stuff. Yuvraj there. Supposedly best. Hussein warns about the backlash if either of the team goes out today.

15 for 1 in 3. Rp comes in for 4th over. Short ball. One more. 17 for 1 in 3.2
Bad ball again. 4 more. 21 for 1 in 4 overs. Appeal of the last ball. Not given. Ishant comes in the attack and rightly so. We need a Indian commentator in the box. Bishop and Hussein too anti-Indian.

Bad start to Ishant. Four. Too much of misfielding happening here. India needs a wicket here. Gambhir dis time. Six to end the over. 34 for 1 in 5.

Last over of Power plays. Bumble in the commentary box. Four. Great stuff from KP. England running away. No imagination from Indian bowlers. Dhoni tsands up to the stumps. Good fielding from Raina. End of restrictions. 40 for 1 in six.

Will we see Yuvraj come in? Apt time for him to come on right now. Stop KP before he opens out. He comes. But goes for a 4. Bopara. KXIP team mates. 6 off 3 balls. KP avoiding Yuvraj. Pie chucker. There he comes. 7 off 5. Four. 11 off the over.

51 for 1 in 7. Bhajji on to match on. Match on to Videocon. 4 off 4 balls. Flighted delivery. Good fielding by Mr Useless. 56 for 1 in 8. Good start. India needs to get a wkt here. Ishant has been a let down. Yusuf Pathan, Raina and Useless should get few overs. IPL experience.

3 off 2 balls. KP now. He s got better of Yuvraj. 4 off 1. 5 off 2. 4 off 3 balls this over. 5 off 4. Mr Useless does it again. Misfield. 9 off 5. Another misfield. 10 off the over.

65 in 9.

Harbhajan for 2nd over. 10th of the innings. 2 off 3 balls. Great stuff from Bhajji. he is a surd from Punjab. Smart street. 3 off 4. Was it a chance ? 3 off 5. Wickets man wickets. Wrong one. 71 for 1 in 10.

Jadeja comes in. Sachinnnnnnnnnnnnn. Last time they showed Sachin a wkt fell. What about this time ? 2 off 2 balls. Left arm spinner from RR. Shane Warne find. 3 off 3. England have got their runs off leg side mostly. Thats it. Bowled him. Bopara trying to make the room, a faster one. Bopara bowled. 2 for 74. Shilpa Shetty's Dimmy comes in. 75 for 2 in 11.

Ishant Sharma back. 1 oof 2 balls. KP on strike. Bad throw. 2 off 3. 3 off 4. Jadeja everywhere. 5 off 5. Good running. 7 off the over. Next one to go out would be Ishant Sharma. 20 off his 2. So now 40 of 84 runs have come in 4 overs. Take that away and score then reads 44 in 8.

Wide ball. Dimmy faces his own team mate. 3 off the 3 balls including one wide and a dot ball. First six of the game. 10 off 5. Thats out. Big wicket. Huge wicket. Wooo hooo. 92 for 3 in 13.

sharma for 3rd over. Colly next. 1st run off the over on the 3rd ball. 39 more to go. Nah. Its Owais Shah who is in. 2 off 4 balls. Good bowling. 4 off the over. 3/96 in 14.

Jadeja for the 15th over. My blog named by Ian Chappell. Arm Ball. 33 more. Good bowling. 1 off4. 2 off 5. 100 for England in 15 overs. 8 off last 2.

RP has 1, Zaks has 2, Bhajji has 2. Jadeja has 1. Ishant iin for his last. 3 off 2.
4 off 3. Ishant is a poor bowler in this format. he proves it again. 8 off 4. Zaks walks off to him. 32 off 3.5 overs. assholle. 36 off 4 overs. Take them off and the score would be 77 in 12.

Jadeja for his last over. MS slow in whipping off the bells. Wide. Four. 7 off 3. off 4. 8 off 5. Good end. And a brilliant spell. 26 off 4 with 2 wkts.

Bhajji on. 17 balls to go. Gone. End of Shah. Collingwood comes in. Jadeja everywhere. Bhajji too good for Colly. 5 wides. Bad stuff.

Bad stuff continues. 135 for 4 in 18.1. 6 off 2 balls. Wide ball. Ridiculous.Switch hit and gone lbw. James Foster next man. 140 for 5. Direct hit would have taken Foster. 142 for 5. 1 more to go and 5/143.

Bhajji to bowl last. Why not RP ? Good over this. Bhajji gets Foster. And now bowled. 3 off the hatrrick ball. 4 wides. Yuvraj Singh misfields. Mind games. 7 for 153. 20 extra runs off fumbles.

India needs 154 to win and stay alive.
India on to batting.
bad shot. Lucky escape. Wide this time. Lucky escape for Gautam gambhir. Good bowl. Mr Useless beaten all ends up. Wide ball. 6 off first over. 148 to win off 19. First voundary through luck. Mr Useless. Fuck Mr useless. Asshole. dude this iss not India. This is England. Gotta wait for ball on backfoot.

India vs England fact bax

India is at the fringe. At the repeat of 2007. Chances still we could do 2007 to England in their own hometurf. Who knows. But then we have been famous to kick them out of the world cup in either format. Go to 1999 and then in 2007. Also one more time in 1983. Except 1999 we went on to win the world cup in 2007 and 1983.

Another fact to remember is after the Lord's defeat in 2007 ODI, India hasnt lost any game to England in either of the 3 formats. Durban win in T20, Chennai win in 2008 and 5-0 in ODIs.

The facts just give which side the momentum lies. Doesnt it.

Superstitious!!

As a part of winning omen for India, i would blog it LIVE. I blogged LIVE. India won (Warm up, Ireland). I didnt blog LIVE. India lost (NZ, WI). Anything for an Indian win.

Concerning Batting for SL

Take out 27 from Jaya and 78 from Blabba ex King and SL scorecard looks a poor reading. 144/9 in 20 overs could still be a match winning score for the 3 Ms. But this is a worrying trend for them in the run to the finals. 150 for 7 in Pak game and now 144 for 9. Just 1 batsman in both games have fired.

If SL win today they go through to the semis.

Recipe for an India win today

Bowl first, get wickets and then bat well to get target well before 20 overs. Dump Irfan Pathan. Get Praveen Kumar. Give him a beer n show him a doctor in the bowler. He would then take his batting seriously. He would get few early wickets.

Bat Yuvraj up the order as soon as Broad comes to bowl. Its circa 2007. More than 58 off 15 balls is needed from him. More than that, MS needs to fire. Fire big. More than his strike rate of 107. And if by any chance they could half/semi fit Viru in. He was key in that game against England in 2007. 68, his highest score.

Alright, he is not present. Some sense of responsibility. Aggression needed. No half measures. No awkwardness. England are a joke, they have nobody in their lineup except Bopara and to an extent Owais Shah.

India need to get back to their true colors right away. No being pushovers. India havent lost a game to England in 2 years, since the Lords ODI defeat. Mind ittttttt.

Coincidences

Coincidences couldnt have got better with 2007 edition. 2 teams to beat to go through. Then and now. England then. England now. South Afrcia then. South Africa now. Only difference is no Viru at the opener stage, Mr Use(ful/less) occupying the stage with less flair and utility. Its right now they would miss Mr Viru Sehwag.

Will that coincidence also let the Blue Men to the title win? Not if they played as cluelessly as yesterday. Yes if they played 2007 style. Which India they are?

Sri Lanka seems to have an edge

Pakistan is giving a fight to Sri Lanka. Murali magic is on wane. Pakistan made a good comeback in the SL innings giving away 70 runs in last 12. And there it is. Murali takes onw wicket, the man to go is Scoop - ul- haq.

50 runs needed off 27 balls. Still with a chance though as mindless Afridi yet to come. If he fires Pak have a chance, if he doesnt then too Pakistan has a less chance. And he is a fuckin idiot. Mindless slog. And Pak seem to have lost it. Afridi is the man to be thrown out. Bowling is all right, but then he has to bat sensibly too with some seniority and some experience to his aide. But then he has known just one theory -- hit it irrespective of situations or conditions.

Faadi comes in. Younis the key.

48 needed off 24. Pakistan seems in a bit of dicey situation. SL seems to have a bit of edge now.

Preview to the Ind vs WI game

“We had options for back-up openers, Yusuf and I were also spoken about. But Rohit was in good form in the IPL and has grabbed his chance with both hands”

MS was speaking on the options for opening in absence of Viru. Heavens gracious, he didn’t open. Just imagine what would have been the reaction if MS was opening. Flood gates would have been opened. He is reeled for coming at # 3, he is being accused of leaking the news and being arrogant with the media. He is now no more the captain kewl.

Rohit Sharma has been pretty decent with the opening spot in England. However he must soon realize that opening is not his cup of tea and its just that he is filling in for Viru in his absence. Ditto for DK. His first test comes today when he takes on his Deccan Chargers team mate Fidel Edwards (subject to play) in the first super 8 game India plays tonite against West Indies at Lord’s. Yes the same ground where 26 years ago India beat WI by 43 runs to win their World Cup.

India would have one challenge to stop Gayle, who has tormented them in the past since 2002 or even old since 1999. Remember the Singapore tri-series followed by Toronto 3 game series when Ganguly first time captained India. Another question India would need to find an answer to is the place of Irfan Pathan. He has been pathetic with the ball. If he opens the bowling today, Gayle is for sure to run away with game. May be Praveen Kumar would be an option to go with as he swings the ball and gets more wickets than Irfan does. Yeah India would lose a batting all-rounder, but then there is enough firepower in the batting department.

Bahut gahra yaarana hai DK aur Veeru me.

I read on some of the regional newspaper that Dr Kalaingar called up Kris to think about DK 's place in Indian cricket. Kris was supposedly under pressure from all quarters and thats the reason why DK was drafted in the Delhi Daredevils team.

Viru and DK were team mates in DD, but back in 2007 DK had replaced Viru as opener in Tests (starting Capetown) going till Bangalore 2007. DK was test opener when Viru lost his chance to be the skipper of India, not just Delhi Daredevils. And as time's wheels (as they say samay ka pahiya in Hindi) rotated (ghuma), DK raja se rank ho gaya and Viru da sitara buland ho gaya. DK had an indifferent Pak series at home. Viru was out of the blues chosen for tour Down Under.

DK didnt play, Viru didnt play until Adelaide when Viru's soi hui kismat suddenly woke up and said I would be with you my boss. And ek woh din hai aur ek aaj ka din hai Viru ne peeche mood kar nahi dekha.

Luck had it, Viru got injured or yadi media ki maane to Viru faked injury and DK was back again in the team at the expense of Viru. Wo alag baat hai ki Bhai Sahab ka VISA nahi hua aur ICC hasnt approved the replacement request.

A bit of fun here. Pakistan, humare padosi, un logo ne Arafat ko allrounder kaha, use injured kara diya and then Spinach Bhai Razzaq ko team me le liya and gajab ki baat dekho bhai ICC ne approve bhi kar diya. Butt sahab ki to chal padi.

Q bhai bade hairaan pareshan ho gaye jab unhone Butt sahab ko kahte suna ki Arafat alrounder kaha. Unka statement bada gajab tha ki he (Arafat) hardly qualifies as bowler.

To 100 million dollars question yeh hai ki DK kaha khelenge ? Keeper banenge ya batsman ya opener ? Bowling to wo kar nahi sakte. Dance jaroor kar sakte hain. Reality show pe the wo kisi zamane me. When we dont have Sreesanth in the team, DK can very well entertain team India on Patti Rap or some of AR Rehman's super dancing songs :P. BTW AR Rehman had a concert in Pune last sunday and boy it was hit. I am a big fan of AR Rehman who hails from Tamil Nadu, haanji, wohi state jo Vindhya ki pahadiyo ke neeche hai. And I am also fan of Kalam saab, ex-president, who also hails from Tamil Nadu, the state of Amma and Karuna :)

Chaloji yeh to ho gai Veeru aur DK ki baat. Bahut gahra yaarana he dono main. Yadi Gabbar aaj jinda hota, to yeh jaroor kahta. "Naach DK naach." Like he said to Basanti in Sholay (hindi fillim hai jee, Amitabh and Dharam paaji acted along with Amjad Khan, naaji no dubbed version). Kahte hai Sholay jaisi movie naa bani hai aur naa kabhi banegi....

Koi na. DK bhai chale London aur Veeru bhai chale South Afrika. Shoulder surgery karayenge, bhel puri khayenge aur October me Champions Trophy me dhamaka karenge and Sri Lanka ki fir band bajayenge. Sorry ji, DK bhai sahab sirf T20 ke liye team me hai. One dayers me to Bhagwanji wapas aayenge, to Rohit bhai bhi bahar baithenge. Test matches me DK saab ko koi jagah nahi hai :)

Badi light hearted post hai ji yeh. Ab koi is par bhi gali galauj karne utar aaye to khuda khair kare aur gali bakne walo ko sadbuddhi de aur Rajni sir ki movie ka free ticket de.

Media Circus

Wait till India wins the world cup and the same media would fall upon each other to hail MS as Captain Kewl.

Lets have some accountability for the media and let them be answerable to some body for the "raaita" they spread everytime. The tendency to show smoke when there is no fire must stop.

I must say here the media in India is real jerk and it needs lot of maturity up its ante.

India vs Ireland LIVE

Its a 18 over game. Irfan starting the proceedings for India and starts with a wide and then a swinging ball. India has 5 bowlers -- Ojha, Pathan I, Zaheer, Harbhajan and Ishant Sharma. Swinging balls. Good to see IP get some swing. Days of yore. Almost got an edge. 2003-04 Pathan on display. AN early wicket warranted.

Good over. 2 off the first one for Ireland.

Zaheer bowling the 2nd over. Swing again. Wide ball. Trying hard to hit the ball for boundary, timing not right for Bray. Zaheer Khan would have pleasent memories of Nottingham Test, the one India won in 2007. Jelly beans. Yusuf Pathan in slips. Amazing. This ball came inside the left hander. Thats it. Bowled. Confidence. Bowler's delight.

1/4 in 2 overs.

Pathan back for 2nd over. Still no boundary. Pathan speeds below 130 :(. Miss again. Skipper on strike. He opens. Indian skipper comes on 3rd. He is trashed. 2 to end the over.

1/9 in 3.0

Zaheer takes his 2nd. And Yusuf grabs one in the slip. Skipper gone. Usual slippers for India in ODIs are either Sehwag (DK'ed), Gambhir or Raina. None of the last two standing today in the silips. Perhaps Sehwag would return to India through Chennai flight :)

Good pouch by YP. Stil no boundary. 11 for 2 in 21 balls. First boundary there. Ishant couldnt stop. Oh boy. YP on roll. Zaks on fire. Poor shot. Ireland in trouble. Pakistan should meet MS before their super 8 game against Ireland to avoid 2007 repeat (very rare though).

3/18 in 4.0

Ishant begins with a 4. 6 off the over.

3/24 in 5.0

Another bowling change ? Yes its YS bowling. More slow options for MS though -- Bhajji, Ojha P, Raina and Sharma R.

Great to hear Anil's voice. The great man is now in commentary team and he would be joined in by hhis ex-captain, who is also India's greatest skipper -- supposed quota selection from Bengal. ROTFL.

Power plays are gone. 4 from the 6th over. 3/28 in 6.

Another bowling change and another wicket. Ojha Naman this time. Oops No. Pragyan Ojha this time. MS's luck (??) continues. Aircel ads on the TV. A network from TN for mobiles endorsed by MS, the TN IPL team skipper. Did i ever write on Arm Ball that I wanted CSK to win but I also wanted AK to excel. He did.

Does Ojha chuck ? May be yes if he gets some success against Australia :).Bad throw. Run out chance missed. CSK player missed the chance. Raina :P. Ojha not happy. He is tossing the ball up.

4/30 in 7.

Bhajji in the attack. His spin partner in the commentary box. Wkts needed for this supposed loud mouthed sardaar. Nope, not my opinion. Reverse sweep. 3 off the over.

4/34 in 8.

First boundary in many overs. Ojha needs a wkt.

11 from the over. 4/45 in 9. Half way mark. AirCell ad again. Mind itttttt!!!

Slow phase of he game. Runs and wkts have dried up. There you go. First wkt for HS. Confidence booster for him.

50 up for Ireeland. Did Ishant tour 2007 to England ? I dont think so. 11 gone. 5 for 54. 40 balls to go. 42 to get for 100.

5 for 65 in 12.

Pretty tight bowling from Indians. 4 more to go and Ireland are just 5 for 69. Ojha for last over. No boundaries :(

Simple dismissal. Ojha gets 6th of the tournament. Highest wicket taker now. Ridiculous running from Batter. Appeal for run out. Could be out. Yes he is. 7th gone.

7 for 73 in 15.

First four in long time. Irfan back in the attack. Runs aplenty here, Pathan sucks for the speed. Four to end the over. 7/88 in 16.

Zaheer takes his 4th. 4th time an Indian bowler takes a 4for in T20I :) Ireland all set to get a 100. Can Zaks get a 5- for ? No. 17 gone. 8 / 97. Mis field from Zaheer. 8/100. Bhajji not happy. In the air. 2 more. Another boundary. 8/107. Tough luck for this boundary. Triple nelson. End of innings. 8/112 in 18.

India vs Ireland fact bax

India has won the toss and rightly would bowl first.
Last time India played Ireland in any international game was in 2007 when they capped on the successful tour of England after a disastrous WC'07.
Two players from that game would fancy today's game :
  • ROhit Sharma made his international debut and DNB as Sourav cracked a match winning 50.
  • But it was Gautam Gambhir who stole the limelight with a match winning 80 and cemented his place in the ODi series leading to his comeback. Mind you he had missed out the world cup berth to Robin Uthappa.

Matara Mozart

Sanath Jaisurya -- the man just doesnt fade away. Another peerless performance today from the ageless wonder. He is to SL what Sachin Tendulkar is to India. Time and again, he is bailing his team out of danger, giving the starts with the bat and ball. So many players came and gone, this man just doesnt fade away. Upul Tharanga and so many partners went with him. Kalu is long happily retired, Attapattu crossed over to ICL, but SJ just goes on and on.

I must say I hated him whenever he hit those nasty hundreds and triple hundreds against us. I overjoyed whenever he went out quickly most notably during the 1996 Semi final. Generations of captains went in. Azhar, Ganguly, Tendulkar, Dravid and Kumble. Now MS. This man still there.

Take a bow. Take a bow. He along with the GOD are the only links now from the 1980s. Hail them as long as they are around.

Meanwhile SL look good to go to semis at least way they have played. Look good today to win as well since no Gayle today and without him WI just seem a touch better than Holland or Ireland.

June 9, 2009

Haywire!!

POV just got abusive. Quota turned to a supposed hatred for a state.

Pakistan go through.

Pakistan are through to Super Eights with Kamran Akamal contradicting his skipper that the t20 is not fun cricket.

Aussies crash out; India retain their world cup; 1983 isshtyle

First time when Aussies were out in first round of a World cup was in 1983 in England. That was the first time when West Indies didnt win the world cup. That was the first time India won the world cup.

So that says it all. India's claim to the defence of its World championship just got stronger :)

Will YK stick to "T20 is fun" statement?

Would Younis Khan stick to his "T20 is fun" statement if Pakistan qualify for Super Eights, something which they look good right now? Or would he do a typical Pakistan ishtyle flip flop.

Real motives in replacement of injured Sehwag

Sehwag returns home with a shoulder injury. Thats a big blow to India, but then he was not being missed in the 3 games India has played on this tour.

What stumps me for words is his replacement. Dinesh Karthik. Cant they think beyond this man?

Selectors not only plant a TN man in the squad, but also they name a "make shift" opener in England (the lad did have some success in Eng 07) n also a backup in case Dhoni gets injured or fakes injuries.

Good move Srikanth. Live example of return of quota system to Indian cricket.

Predictions for the day

Today's games I fancy :

Netherlands surprise Pakistan

South Africa demoralize Kiwis.

Life without Aussies

Ozzies are out. They were Gayle'fied on Saturday and today they were Malinga'ed and Mendis'ed. And then Kumar'ed. In short dumped out of the World T20. Critics having a field day, fans a bit disappointed and more disgusted. The Australia we knew or i should say I knew was nowhere on the display.

They just didnt show their true colors. One eye on Ashes and half a eye on world t20. This approach didnt work. And this caps off a horrendous time they have had in limited version of the game in 2009. In a way India's way eased out to the title defense.

The big names flopped, the returning stars ran out of the steam. Ponting seemed to be in a Test mode while captaining a T20.

In short, the Aussies have been drained out of the T20 world series and it would be SL who would be in India's group. Mendis vs Indians. Wow. Delightful propositions.

Aussies now get to the Test mode and they would want to now win the Ashes by the same margin as they won in 2006-07, so that we could see Ponting retire and Sachin's supremacy in Test cricket sealed forever.

Aussies Struggling

Its most prolly good bye to Ozzies from the world cup T20.

One thing stumps me. Why do people hate to see Aussies win or love to see them lose ? Is it hatred or out of racism ? Is it out of hate for Punter's antics or over the top means to win ? Why does Homer criticisiesesese everything Aussie ? Only reason I know is the hatred s not based on facts. Rest may be you can help me discover.

Australia vs Sri Lanka

Ireland and India get into super 8 stage. Now its 5 teams who have made it.

India
Ireland
England
NZ
SA

3 more. 5 contenders.

BD
Scotts are out

WI are almost through. Australia are on the brink. Sri Lanka are yet to play their 1st game. pakistan most prolly wont make it. Netherlands are on brink of history.

Key for Australia is to bat 2nd and win with a huge margin. SL are feeble in batting. Exploit the weakness and bat mighty to win the game to improve their NRR. Players to watch out for :

1. Shane Watson
2. David Hussey
3. Peter Siddle
4. Kumar Sangakara

Update is SL have won the toss and they would bowl first. Old Blighty has not been so good for Ponting, the skipper. 2005 proved it. 2009 proving it again.

A good contest in hands.

Ireland favorites

The way Ireland are going by, i fancy Ireland thump Deshis who like their former brothers in Pakistan have no plans and no objective, just mindless slogging.

World T20 thus far.

I was away from the world of cricket and internet travelling to a distant land. So missed the LIVE action of World T20. However, the excitement is just about unfolding with the 7 games being over and results being a mixed bag. 4 teams have almost made it to the Super 8 stage and 2 would be decided almost today. Not an open format though, the IPL was more closer than this when the final 4 were decided in the last league game. The minnows have had it, the stronger teams have been punched hard on their face, the world champs have began emphatically and the runners up are in the dangers of being knocked out in the first round itself.

The world t20 began with a very exciting result when Netherlands beat England by 4/6 wkts in the tourney opener. English media was quick to rub the loss as the worst ever and blackest day in the history of 195 years of Lord’s. Too quick though, when in their next do – or – die league game, England thumped Pakistan by 48 runs, which is a big margin in T20. This result means England are through to the super 8s. And today Pakistan would need to win big against Netherlands. So that’s two fold a task. Win and win big.

SA and NZ had no difficulty in brushing aside Scotland who began well surprisingly in the rain shortened game on Saturday. This 2 sides are through to the next round and the winner of the tie between this 2 teams would decide the groups, the teams go in. SA have looked the most convincing team in the tournament thus far, though they played against a weak side. That has been the SA story. Start well, win all the games and then choke when it matters the most. Hope that this time, Graeme Smith would have different script for his team.

India beat Bangladesh convincingly by 25 runs though the critics would have their share of Dhoni bashing when he struggled to hit the ball. Ojha looked strong and Bhajan deceived. Zaheer was rusty. The way India played as a team sounds warning to the other teams in Super 8 stage that it would be very tough to beat this team. The only matter of concern is when Sehwag returns, who goes out?

Australia have suffered a great deal with the loss of Roy and perhaps they should have thought if sending back Roy was a wise move or it was an battle of egos between Roy and Pups. They face a do or die situation tonight and if they lose, they would be out for the first time in 17 years in the first round itself in any ICC tournament. (1992 World cup being the last). Ponting and Watson disappointed in the batting, Lee was treated like a school kid by Gayle during his 50 ball 88. Australia still might get through the Super 8 stage given they play SL who have been lackluster in the run up to the tournament. Australia have very little time in their hands to turn around the things. If SL lose, they still have a game to go against WI to make up for the loss.

One word on Pakistan. You cannot expect a team which has not won a single game in the tour to scamper through and go to the finals. Be it for cricketing reason or be it the emotional reasons. Pakistan have been simply rubbish over the tour. They have had no plans, they have had no will to play through. Emotional outbursts over Lahore wont always buy them a cover for their shabby performance. If they have to show their might, they have to show in the cricketing paradigms. “I have no idea why our fielders are unable to field properly. Maybe they are under certain pressure. It is not as if we are not working hard but we are not just getting it right for reasons unknown to me.” This kind of answers are lamentable. And then this one “"Even if Butt scored 28 as an opener we'll have to think about him [for the next game] because of his fielding,". Public outcry no no. He has demotivated the opener. And then this one “Kamran Akmal is a senior batsman but he can't somehow take the responsibility. We need a senior guy in the top order who can play the anchor role”. Rustiness and lack of cricket won’t be an excuse to cover their below par performances for long. Another loss and the entire Pakistan team could be renewed including the ouster of selection committee and the PCB management. That’s how it’s always been across the border. For me they were never the side who looked good to go to semis. Why doesn’t Younis Khan go up the order at 3 and anchor the innings. # 5 is bit too low for this man, who is unfortunately the best batsman of the team. Will he take the leads ?

I fancy Ireland beat Bangladesh and Australia beat Sri Lanka.
