How disgusting. Cheap and biased. MoYo is # 1 batsman in Tests. Holy crow. How come ? He didnt play a Test for 19 months and he makes a 100 and goes on the top.
And bloody hell, players like Gautam Gambhir score everywhere in every conditions. He doesnt even reach the top. Tendulkar scores 3 hundreds in 6 home tests and he is not even in top 10.

Fucking shit. Who says ICC is biased towards India ? They are for sure towards this pervert!! Out of nowhere he comes back and mocks players who play for their team with utmost sincerity and commitment. yousuf is a joke. Big joke.
Mohd Yusuf disgusts and to see him on top of rankings is even disgusting. If you term this hate, yes it is. A selfish batsman cannot be # 1 in ranking. A man who puts money and selfish interests over country and team cannot be # 1.
Anybody knows how ICC players ranking work? I see no sense here.
41 Perspectives:
I agree . I too was shocked when I read the report . I would wait for others to possibly come up with a sane exlplanation . Is it because the ICC feels that it has been too harsh on Pak to strip them of the world cup host status . May be Q or SP have a better understanding to the whole issue .
how come they cud explain smthin which i cudnt.
sp has sometime back mentioned rankings are crap!!
Haha that's a hilarious outburst Sam..
I'm not a big fan of the rankings but there is a formula behind the rankings which is explained on the website.. I don't think the rankings are biased but I do think that their formula is not ideal because it allows players to move up or down the rankings even if they don't play a game..
Anyway.. so after Yousuf's 2006 dream year he got to number 2 in the rankings behind Ponting I think.. since Yousuf hardly played any test cricket in 2007 and 2008 his points did not change much.. he remained at the same level, while batsmen around him moved up and down.. but no batsmen, according to the rankings formula, managed to get as many points as Yousuf had accumulated.. he was still at number 5 or 6 before this test.. and after his 100 he moved to 1.
The ICC's points system also takes into account the opposition, the pitch, and how other batsmen fare in the same match.. since not many batsmen did well in the game and Yousuf got a 100 he probably got more points than a 100 would usually get.. thats how they work.
I don't think its to please Pakistan at all cos Younis Khan was number 1 in the rankings since Feb after his 313.. so that doesn't make sense...
agreed Q, but then is it justified to see him on top ? No cricket all this yrs, a 100 and on top.
what abt those who scored 5-6 hundreds in same duration. player rankings dont matter.
Thats exactly my point Sam.. the rankings formula is not ideal.. so nope seeing him at 1 does not make sense..
But I wouldn't say that he should not be 1 cos he's a selfish bastard..
rankings besides Q, how wud hv the batsman who Yusuf replaced wud hv felt. not sure whom he replaced. but that poor bloke wud hv felt let down....
Yousuf replaced Faisal Iqbal.. he must have felt bad but any team would have picked Yousuf as soon as he was available..
not sure. Australia didnt pickup Symonds. India didnt pick Siddhu for long.
and wot i hear now from Bari is Asif is now going to be back in contention.
i may be from old school but i believe team interests r always top than self
Sam just to clarify my last comment where i said that may be SP or q can have some comment . what I meant was that I wanted to specifically wanted them to specifically respond to this post so that there could be a healthy discussion . I never wanted to underestimate your understanding of things .. just was too excited about teh various schools of thought . Sorry if i created any confusion ..
regarding the MoYo ranking issue I believe that the ranking shoudl only involve active players and not somebody who wakes from hibernation and hits a fluke century .
Sam, sadly in Pakistan the players have always been bigger than the team.. thats how things are.. we cant do much abt it..
Asif's ban ends in September, hence he will be back in the fold..
SM, the 100 wasn't a fluke.
Q , if it wasnt a fluke what happened to his mastery in the 2nd inn when the country needed him most ?
Q, i dont think so the pak have had players bigger than team. if so then Akram and Imran wouldnt have picked any player out of the blue -- streets or lawn and get them directly to national fold..they wud hhv been happy to keep their position n njoi the success..
may be i m not much informed on internals of pak cricket, on the exteriors i wrote wot i felt.
agree with u SM on rankings part :)
SM, thats where his selfishness comes in. a century made, rankings earned, plaudits earned. to hell with the team.....
kick him out n get Alam in. but that wud be wishful thinking :)
SM, just cos he failed in the 2nd innings doesn't mean his 100 was a fluke.. he misread Herath in the 2nd innings.. simple.. he was out done..
IF you watched that first innings 100 you would know wat a great knock it was.. and he just continued from where he left off at the end of 2006.. were those 2000 runs in a year and 9 centuries also a fluke?
Sam, Wasim Akram played on despite being guilty of match fixing while Salim Malik got banned.. Shoaib Akhtar has played on all these years despite being indisciplined and unfit.. just 2 examples of where players have been bigger than the game in pakistan...
Well I dont agree to the part that he needs to be out of the team . Remember once he refused captaincy in the past again for his personal gains . an example where hsi own interest was higher than the team. Left his national team in between without informing anybody and flew to delhi to play for ICL . again money made this mare move . and now a solo performace in a team game to earn rankings .. Well I see him at par with the Runako 'liar' Morton . Nodoubt he has skill but it is of no use without the right attitude . There are many players who do wonders with their limited skils just due to the right attitude and by being a team man .
Well lets test him again in the next test when Murali is back and also possibly Herath and Murali bowl in Tandem defending / chasing a possibly tougher target.
Sam your wishful thinking cant come true so soon as the board would not replace a top ranker with a relatily unknown player .
SM,
Yousuf never refused the captaincy. He was never offered the captaincy.
I agree he ditched the team and went to the ICL and I still hold that against him, but that does not take away the fact that he is a brilliant batsman.
He has always been a great batsman..
U can't be serious in implying that he scored his 100 to gain rankings.. that is just absurd.
Really , I thought before Shoaib 'insignificant' Malik was offered the captaincy it was offered to Md Yousuf and he had refused once .. may be I am mistaken .
BTW I liked your write up on Md Aamer .
No not Yousuf.. it was offered to Younis Khan who refused it. Yousuf was never offered the captaincy..
Thanx re: Aamer..
nothing against moyo (apart from my well documented feelings...) this is another reason to celebrate the fallacy of ranking system...
...and thanks SM for overestimating my intelligence... ;-))
SM, Yusuf converted 2 try get captaincy but he never got it.
Q, selfishness nullifies all greatness
thnx Q for pointing instances
"Yusuf converted 2 try get captaincy but he never got it."
You cannot be serious Sam.. u cannot questions someone's religious turn for any other motives than religion itself.
"selfishness nullifies all greatness"
I don't agree.. example in case: Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.
They were the most selfish bowlers ever to play for Pakistan, yet they were also the greatest.
well Q, thats the Indian perception about it.
Wasim and Waqar were selfish agreed. they made best efforts to outdo each other, but then who benefitted ?
team itself right. do u disagree on this ? what did pak team gain out of Yusuf s selfishness ?
Sam,
Besides out doing each other Wasim and Waqar also didn't allow any upcoming pacer to come up in the ranks.. they were known not to help put youngsters during their playing days, unlike Imran Khan used to.. besides that all the matches that they fixed ... and Wasim Akram keeping Waqar out of the team for 3 years...
These are just a few examples... but all that did not take away the fact that they were great bowlers :-)
i dont believe wasim fixed matches. nope. he was too great to do that.
who needs 3rd if u have 2 Ws...
my opinion :)
perhaps there have been no greater statsman for Pak cricket than Imran and Inzy....but i feel wasim did his bit too in grooming the likes of Razzaq, Shoaib, Inzy and saqi ...didnt he ?
Ur right Sam, he did groom those players..
Anyhow.. we can agree to disagree on this..
Good Morning SP , I always knew you had great faith in the "fallacy" of teh rankings . So wanted to have your points of view on it . anyways I am an avid follower of straight points.
that was a good discussion Q
glad SM, you found SP here.
It was :-)
hope that changes some misunderstandins abt me
Sam , I should say it was a wonderful and a verry informative discussion specially for me . I aspire to be a bloggerlike all of you and these are my apperentice days .
Finally I found SP here ,a day late though .
Thanks Q for the data packed well pitched points . makes me realize the kind of reading that I need to go through to blog .
Thanks you Sam for the nerve racking post that instigated me to take some of your precious time . Possibly if you are at work , you stole some of the billable time to reply to my silly points
nah SM, it was grt to have u here and i can say is keep droppin here.
i m home watchin ashes and at work i m on bench, so no billable assignments for me rt now :)
I am at work and there is one window that is always on on the i google page which shows any new comment . since yesterday the work has taken a beating and I feel that I can always take work back home .
Nothing like a like live discussion that we had yesterday and today on this post and was commendable that Q also took out time to point and counterpoint when needed
hey SM, live discussions always help.
Thanx guys.. I don't deserve that much praise but a discussion is always healthier when there r different points of views...
