Did I read it right that Wasim Akram dedicated Pakistan's T20 World cup win to its "brave army"?
I mean was he in senses or was he drunk in the commentary box ? What has army got to do with this ?
Seriously. The Pakistan players and commentators in addition to Butt and Miandad need be given some refresher courses on communication skills.
Meanwhile while googling this I found interesting forum link where few people werent so happy to see their team win.
11 Perspectives:
Yeah Wasim Akram did say that and we still don't know why.. sounded extremely strange!
YK dedicated the win to Woolmer.. who cares what Wasim Akram says..
Those comments on that link are weirdly stupid!
YK was amazingly natural and mature in this dedication and Wasim was supposed to be the best of the lot when it came to speaking.
there is a saying in here, may be in Pakistan too :
which says
"jitne muh utni baat"
perfect example of that.
wow..so you actually went through the trouble of finding some obscure forum where a handful of people were airing anti-Pakistani sentiments?
In the interest of presenting a balanced picture, why don't you also mention the hundreds of forums where Pakistanis were celebrating this amazing victory? But of course, your bitterness towards Pakistan won't allow you to do that.
I won't get into the whole war on terror debate, but what Wasim said reflects how he feels about what the army is doing right now. His comment was not, in any way, intended to be offensive towards the Indian army; and it certainly did not warrant you scouring the internet for any form of anti-Pakistan sentiments you could find on some obscure forum.
I like your blog, you have an interesting take on cricket. But after reading several of your posts, it is quite clear that you're not too fond of us Pakistanis. Fair enough, you are entitled to your opinion but come on man, for the sake of your Pakistani readers (like myself), try to tone down on the hate and the bitterness.
I'm sure it would be very easy for a Pakistani blogger like Q, to dig up an anti-India thread from a Naxal, Khalistan, etc. forum and put it on his blog, but lets keep it nice and civil, and concentrate on discussing cricket, shall we?
thanks hani for the long comment. i dont suffer from anti Pakistan tirades. and neither do i suffer from myopic vision :)
i dont hate pakistanis. is all i can say.did i pick up any raw nerve ? did i say anythin on politics going on ?
i mentioned abt Akram's comment that why did he mention abt army when it was not warranted in the context of cricket ? thats it.
Nothing more, nothing less.
i can point out 10 diff blogs on same comment to u, so wud u say that they are biased to Pakistan.
I am surprised that Akram's perfectly innocuous and heartfelt comment has led to a reaction from people. He obviously feels the pakistani army is engaged in a tough struggle against the Pakistani Taliban - a demoralizing (and confusing) fight against one's own countrymen, and taking casualties daily - to save the country from a Taliban takeover. The victory would be a source of some comfort for them, and thats what Akram meant when he dedicated the win to the Pak Army. The Pak Army is not just power hungry manipulative corrupt generals you know. He meant the rank and file soldiers who are poor and fight bravely while being treated like cannon fodder by their political and military masters. I am an Indian, but I have no problem with that.
Yenjie, the context of Akram's comment was wrong. Army had nothing to do with the WT20 win.
And we all know that Taliban is a creation of ISI and we also know ISI is controlled by whom.
So thats the political aspect of it. Lets not get into all that.
Correct, taliban are a creation of ISI, but they are now being funded by RAW and we all know RAW is contolled by whom. But as you said, lets not get into all that.
hani, you got it a bit wrong. RAW doesnt exist even more thanks to Gujral sahab :P
Sam,
RAW does exist and just like we don't fail to acknowledge the ISI's existence, I believe you should also not live in denial that RAW plays no part in what goes on between Pakistan and India..
As far as the Taliban.. it is not the ISI's ceation.. it is the CIA's creation who built those militants to fight the Afghan and the Russians all those years ago...
And we know who controls the CIA right?
The fact that CIA also created the ISI, is a different story altogether...
I read this series of replies, and I also read recent comments by Shahid Afridi, that the Indians don't seem interested in playing the Pakistanis, and by Akram that the BCCI needs to let Indo-Pak series happen. I think something needs to be clarified in the most blunt terms - the Mumbai attacks were carried out by Pakistanis trained in Pakistan based terror schools. Terror has been exported from Pakistan to India over the last 20 odd years, but the Mumbai attacks were a senseless escalation that hurt every Indian deeply. On top of that, till today, not one prominent Pakistani has stood up and said this was a bad thing done by our countrymen, and there is no excuse, and these mad people should be condemned. The Indian team was in the midst of a series when the attacks happened. They lost people they knew - especially at the Taj, where a lot of them have stayed over the years and knew the long serving staff personally. Sachin was hurt enough to dedicate his Madras century to Mumbai victims. Sachin, Bhajji and many other cricketers made it a point to go spend time with the Indian commandos after the attack. I think there is strong feeling in the team as well as the board, that the PCB and prominent Pakistani ex-players etc should condemn terror in no uncertain terms, without the usual riders about "we are also suffering" or "we are also victims". If a person with a drinking habit burns his neighbor's house and also burns his own house, he cannot claim that they are both victims of the same problem. Until this happens, I think the Indian team and its board are united in blocking out Pakistan from India's cricket calendar. Pakistan may play abroad, with other teams, but it will find in India a very reluctant response to any overtures. We have tried cricket diplomacy, and it will only work if people are willing to place some trust in each other. If the automatic reaction to an attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Pak is that "this was engineered by RAW" somehow, India will not be friendly. Nor should it be. I think the friendliness that existed between the teams until last year will now be conspicuously missing for a while atleast.
To Q's point about RAW - seriously, now the Taliban is being funded by us? The truth can be stretched to that extent to avoid an honest self appraisal? The RAW is not the CIA. Hell, even the CIA is not the CIA. The sad but honest reality is this - there is a cancer in Pakistan today. Regardless of who put it there, or how it began, the fact that it stays and flourishes is because it finds a welcoming environment. The logical endpoint of this cancer is the demise of the state (atleast such as it is) and its replacement by what existed so spectacularly for a short while in Afghanistan - imagine Gaddafi stadium full of cheering men - not for Cricket but for beheadings and stonings. Many urban Pakistanis outright deny the possibility of this ever happening, and it leaves everyone else aghast at the level of denial. Pakistan is overwhelmingly rural, overwhelmingly poor, and overwhelmingly illiterate. The math is against the city folk. The Pakistani civil society that we hear about so much - the people who marched int he streets to put the judges back in office - think they are Pakistan. This is utter self deception. They refuse to admit how vastly outnumbered they are. I don't think RAW or any other organization can do more than what pakistanis themselves have done and are doing still, against their own nation. Waise, dil ke khush rakhne ko Ghalib ye khayal achha hai.
Sorry SAM, I know you wanted to stay away from this.
Wonderful Yenjie. You echo my sentiments. on this topic. this is sensitive. Yes it is. 11.26 has changed the cotours of the country and there have been no doubts on who has done this. But we as bloggers have tried to keep this as away as we could.
The problem with Pakistan is they live in denial. they dont know who their real enemy is. The army makes people believe its INDIA. India;s ghost have made them frightened all this years and the so called millitary rulers have toppled even ridiculous democratic govts.
The Taliban was created by ISI long back in aid of CIA to counter USSR invasion in Afg.Later on the Taliban turned nasty and attacked US interests (Al qaida n stuff). Mr Musharraf had to give up the support to his own baby to aid US in the war on terror.
Now Pakistan finds its own home grown baby trying to engulf it. India has tried to remain peaceful as it cud, but then there has always been some terror sponsorship going on from land of Pakistan.....
its beyond our patience to endure this bt we let it pass. Pakistan the day it identifies its real enemy would be lot better place than it is today and then even cricket would resume.
Q, if u feel RAW is doing all this behind Taliban, then my friend you are terribly wrong.
THis is my last comment on this topic. i dont want it to get in way of my blogging on CRICKET.
Mr Hani turned it wrong way and then it just went going wrong. i just hope i m not crucified for this.
